Four-month-old peeing on herself while she sleeps

1111 7
Hello!

I have a four month old standard poodle who has been doing excellent with potty training and crate training. However, when I have her sleep on the couch next to me, or she falls asleep on the floor, she often pees on herself while she's sleeping. We haven't noticed this happening in the crate at all, and she can hold it all night. We had her checked for a UTI which came back positive, although she just completed the antibiotics for it and we're still having the same problem. She is not yet spayed. The vet said that it is "unusual" but didn't seem too concerned. Does anyone have any insight?

Thanks!

We took her back to the vet and he did another urine test on urine removed directly from her bladder and determined that it isn't a UTI, but puppy vaginitis. He said that she would just grow out of it. She's now almost 6 months and the sleep accidents happen less, but we're still a bit worried about her. I guess we'll just wait another month or so and see :(

No incontinence, but Peggy had vaginal discharge her first few months (likely puppy vaginitis) and it did indeed clear up as she matured. I can't recall when exactly. I think definitely by 6 months. The shape of her vulva noticeably changed as well.

Then, with her first heat cycle, there was about a week where she'd have dried urine on her tail in the mornings. Again, it resolved on its own, but it wasn't fun for her or us so I really sympathize.

Have you considered seeking a second opinion? Maybe if it's not fully cleared up within the next couple of months you could ask to be referred to a specialist.

How's she doing otherwise? We love puppy pics and stories!
She's doing great! Her personality seems to change so much every day and we're always learning how to best care for her. Some days she's an angel, other days she's out of control but we love it all.
