Hello lovely ladies and gents!
So I am getting my first Standard Poodle in the coming months...from a reputable breeder may I add. I randomely stumbled across this breed and I was drawn towards them so after doing my due diligence...I decided this would be my first dog as an adult. I was born in Poland and grew up with shepperds on the farm..but once we emigrated to Canada my parents only permitted cats in the home. I actually wanted to own a shepperd..german(European line) or dutch..but I wasn't feeling super confident I could handle a shepperd as a first dog. I was also drawn to the Doberman(due to my active lifestyle) but again wasn't feeling super confident regarding this breed.
Anyway..I digress. I lead a fitness lifestyle and I've been blown away by the Standard Poodles I have met on my hikes. They were all so well behaved and almost regallike. And what also blew me away was their intuition...there is something very humanlike about them. Anyway I fell in love with a breed I would never thought I would have considered as my future dog.
Anyway..let me get to the point. So of course upon my walks..I see doodles everywhere and have chatted with the owners. I will admit doodles are adorable but I would never purchase one. That said..upon venturing on goldenretriever forums...I have noticed this nasty habit of blaming all negative doodle qualities like hyperness and neurotic behaviors on Poodles! Why is that? Is this behavior common with poodles? From my experience....every single poodle(standard)I have come across has been so well behaved. I've never had a poodle jump on me or experienced any of the aforementioned undesirable traits with standards. I know it comes down to training and breeding..but why is this behavior being blamed on the poodle part? Many of the young Goldens I have come across have been hyperactive etc. Now..I do realize poodles are high energy as well..but I find it interesting that the doodles hyperness would be blamed on the poodle side instead of them being a mutt. I guess I'm bringing this up because the poodle stigma is REAL and it's unfortunate because every poodle I have met has been incredibly memorable. Everytime I come across a Standard..I feel like I'm meeting a human in dog form..instead of a dog. Sounds strange I know!. Anyway I'm excited for the poodle journey! I would love to hear input on why negative doodle traits get blamed on poodles as if Goldens are perfect lol
