Doggie DIY

Looking for ideas of dog-related items that can be made at home. I'm interested in trying my hand at more of these, partly for cost savings but also because I can tailor the design/materials by making myself. This could be clothing, accessories, toys, beds, etc. And more! I'll start off with a home-made snood to keep my dog's ears out of his food. I used a recycled blouse, and later used another blouse to sew my first COVID mask (it matches the blue trim on his snood!). I also made a belly band out of leftover fleece and velcro; this was to train my dog at barn hunt after he lifted his leg on a straw bale during his first outing.

I'm thinking of making a snuffle mat and a vest (for when my dog 'eventually' is able to take the TD test!).

I love the idea of matching your mask to the snood. good work.

If you live where there’s more than a dusting of snow, you might consider sewing a snowsuit long enough to cover the whole leg.

I have turned several of my old jumpers into warm woolies for Poppy, and have nearly got a four-legged fleece pattern sorted, although the front legs only one is much easier to get right, and to get on and off! Poppy likes it because it has a sort of cape which covers the bits most jumpers don't!

Skylar, that's a great idea for the snow. I forgot about another effort, leggings to protect from the random pee on the front legs (made with youth jacket sleeves). Those weren't very successful, as the elastic didn't seem to hold them up well.

fjm, thanks for the jumper idea. I can up-cycle some of my son's old things that are now too small for him.

Porkchop, thanks. He's a good boy!
