Dog food question

2812 Views 23 Replies 11 Participants Last post by  Rug Guy
We are picking our puppy up tomorrow morning and the breeder has said she feeds purine performance dry dog food. I thought a puppy was suppose to have puppy food the first year of life just wanting opinions on if I should slowly switched to purina pro plan puppy?

What size puppy? , and generally, yes to puppy formulas for puppies. I just checked the Purina site and several of the Purina Pro Plan Sport Performance are listed as All Ages, fyi, so if one of those, it should be ok.

Purina Pro Plan All Ages Sport Performance 30/20 Beef & Rice Formula
Purina Pro Plan All Ages Sport Performance 30/20 Salmon & Rice Formula
Purina Pro Plan All Ages Sport Performance 30/20 Chicken & Rice Formula

If you want or need to switch, and barring other factors, unless Puppy isn't doing well on the food, not growing, or having gastric upsets, be sure to do it very slowly, over a week or more.

It's not unusual for a pup to go off their feed the first days of adjusting to their new home. After all, they've just been abruptly taken from everything known, comforting, safe, and familiar.

Toys run the risk of hypoglycemia, so if your pup is a toy, be sure to review the Hypoglycemia Sticky. This can turn deadly, quickly.

Purina Pro Plan Sport Performance is the one she gives him. He’s 10 weeks old tomorrow actually, we just picked him up and on our 8 hour ride home with him she said don’t give him food or water for a little while because he may get sick he’s going to sleep right now so I think he’s doing fine

OMG HES THE CUTEST

And if it says all life stages, its okay :), although he MAY need a puppy or a small breed feed since the pebbles are smaller.

He's a very handsome little boy! Hope things are going reasonably well.

It's a lot of changes and adjustments for all of you. He's just a tiny baby and depends on you for everything now :).

When you have a few free minutes let us know how things are going.

He did great on the way home he slept some and played in his car seat with his toys, we stopped every couple of hours and I put a puppy pad in the floor and he peed on it right away about 3 or 4 different times. He has wined for no reason several times today even when one of us was holding him. I figure it’s because he misses his mom and siblings. Toward the afternoon he stopped that and has played so hard. He’s eating fine I bought the small kibble purina puppy food he can eat it much better and loved the taste so I’m going to slowly change to that for now. He has a sweet personality and loves for me to walk back and forth while holding him through the house. He hates his room so we will have to keep working on that. I bought him a Kong and put some cheese in it and a stuffed puppy with a Heartbeat so I’m hoping he does better tonight. We love him already but he sure is a handful right now. I guess I forgot how much energy puppies have.
