Sadly I have to postpone Zacharys grooming appointment that is this month probably until the first week of march. We are getting so close to my due date and I just have no one to get him up there and back at this time. (Driving is impossible right now and with an extremely active poodle well that is just a bad combination)
But I figure with the winter being the coldest winter we have had in years (and in Zacharys lifetime...it hasn't been above freezing in quite some time we had 2 straight weeks where it didn't get above 17 degrees. Its actually going to get up to 45 by the end of the week but then drop again over the weekend)

I figure that a close cut right now would honestly not be a good idea anyway.

So if we let him go another month, do you think he will be too terribly uncomfortable? We had him last groomed 3 days before Thanksgiving.

We used to keep him shaggy year round but now we keep him in a close cut.

Two questions: Hair is getting in his eyes, would it be okay to trim that back a little? And what is the best way to safely do that?

And when his fur gets longer and he has a bowl movement some of the poo does get stuck in the longer fur around his bottom, is there a way to prevent or lessen that chance of that happening? (Its not an anal gland thing, just a long fur thing)

Thanks

This is how he currently looks by the way:

This is how we like to keep him: (but its too cold and a good grooming right now isn't possible)

This is how we used to keep him up until a few months ago (so I feel a few more weeks shouldn't bother him, right)....he won't be anywhere near this long

He won't be too uncomfortable do you think

I don't see where it will bother him. But if it were me, I would trim around his face and anal area, it's not hard to do, and this will help him from getting messy and you from the clean up. :)

Do a light trim, follow the line of what the groomer did. You could also pin it back . I slick Olies every few days with water, because his does the same thing goes over his eyes.

I think he'll be ok and I can relate to your situation 100% I am having a hard time getting to my OB appointments two and three times a week because I can almost not drive anymore either. I have a hard time doing much of anything these days come to think of it unless I am really motivated. I groomed one of my spoo clients today and it just about killed me, needless to say my own to girls are looking a little ratty I'm afraid. No more weekly grooming for them.

If you need to trim parts of his topknot to keep it out of his eyes use a comb to comb it forward over the eye and then trim lightly just what overhangs, almost like you're trimming a ladies bangs. Then you can fluff it back up with the comb and use a pair of scissors to even if up it you feel the need. I wish I had pictures to show what I am trying to explain - maybe somebody else will be able to do that My hubby took my blood pressure and has threatened to cuff me to the bed or haul me off to the hopsital if I don't stay put so no way will he agree to tossing one of the girls on the table for me to photo for you. LoL. It really sucks sometimes to have an EMT/hospital employee for a hubby. There is NO escaping and no peace when it comes to my health now.

As for the anal area yup you can trim that too, no problem as long as he will hold still for you. It's much easier to do if you have a pair of clippers but if you don't you *can* do it with scissors. Just be really careful and don't worry about getting it super short like what you may be used to seeing after having him done at the groomer. You can lightly trim the back of his legs with a pair of scissors to. You shouldn't have to worry to much about messing anything up style wise since you are planning to have him clipped so close anyway when you are able to have him groomed.

Good luck :) When are you due?

Easy to do it yourself. Put him up on a cabinet or other elevated surface so he will be a bit uncomfortable and less likely to jump around. Get someone to help hold him if you need to and trim that hair around the anus nice and short. If you are really nervous, get some of those baby scissors that have the rounded tips so if you accidentally stab him or he jumps into the scissors it won't hurt. Take a comb and fluff up the hair and cut it as short as possible all around and underneath the anus. You can lightly trim above they eyes to keep that from falling down. I have worked on many victims of home grooming and unless you do something really crazy it will be no problem. He will be fine as long as you keep him mat free, as mats pull on the skin and can hurt if they are tight.

When are you due?

Early Feb. But it seems as if she might try to make it here sooner. (It seems all babies in my family come early and I just have this feeling she will too. Then again she could be right on time. We have had so many scares this pregnancy we just want her to get her safe and sound)

wow you are close then :) Seems like the end of Jan and the month of Feb is prime baby birthin' time here. I'm not supposed to go till the end of Feb and I am kind of hoping they will change their mind but they are talking about taking him end of Jan.

Well good luck and keep me updated. I know we both probably want our babies to stay in until atleast their due date, but in the end its always whats best for the baby, and sometimes waiting until the due date isn't always best. But I'll be praying that things work out that he is atleast further along before you have to deliver him. We think I am actually a week ahead then the doc is estimating, so instead of being 35 weeks, I think we are more like 36 weeks which is why I think she will come sooner.
I was on bedrest for the majority of the pregnancy, from early. I've finally been cleared for normal activity but sadly now I just don't feel good enough to do anything.

So I'm only a week give or take a day or two behind where you're doctor is saying you are because I am 34 weeks now.
I asked about induction today and the reply was to ask the specialist co-managing my case now what he thinks. It sort of sounded like they might be changing their mind about such an early delivery. I'm of two minds about that ONE I don't want to wait, and TWO I want to wait as long as needed. I've already had the baby boosters though so my reg. OB said it was all go if the specialist recomended delivery at 36 weeks or 37 weeks.
I just got put on bedrest last month with permission for some light activities and light grooming once or twice a week at most. Anyway I guess I should make a whole seperate post about this, I have new ultrasound pics to share anyhow lol.
