So I am starting my research on CBD oils for Louie. He has some anxiety issues - mainly travel and car related. While this is admittedly also a training issue (we have curbed it as much as we can with counter conditioning) at the heart of is is a need for new pathways in his brain. If the CBD drops help him experience an alternative chiller universe - it may be helpful. Anyway - imagine my surprise when I looked at this product on the shelves of my health food store. This is a CBD oil marketed at pets by a giant of the health food industry "Garden of Life". Added to the CBD are essential oils - Lavender, Frankincense and Orange Peel oil... I am deeply uncomfortable with these "inactive ingredients". I am the end of a 5 year journey of an advanced "degree" in herbalism. "Degree" is relative since there is no actual oversight for the designation herbalist in the US. So while I have been intensely studying for this with an actual herbalist school for many years, anybody out there can buy a book (or not even) and claim to be an herbalist. Hence the insane amount of absolutely horrifying false info available online - especially with essential oils. Just to put that out there. Essential oils are NOT natural - at all! Your body is in no way equipped with handling an onslaught of molecules in unnatural proportions such as is the case with super concentrated essences. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. Some essential oils require a truckload worth of source materials (and that is not a poetic figure of speech). This is even more true for animals - especially cats and small dogs who lack the proper elimination channels for such concentrated substances. Why on earth Garden of Life would add essential oils in unspecified amounts to a CBD product is beyond my understanding. I know they wanted the terpenes to boost the effectiveness of the CBD but why oh why not disclose amounts and research behind this - or use food based terpenes? Your dog can very well react negatively to orange peel oil, the resin of frankincense and lavender. I am almost certain that this product will disappear from shelves as quickly as it arrived... I hope not too may dogs have to have seizures first and die horrible deaths meanwhile..
