Hi there. New to poodle forum after being a lurker. I have a 9 year old standard poodle who is the center of my universe. Today I was brushing him and discovered this bump which scared me. Anyone know what it might be?
At 9 years I would not be terribly worried about finding a bump. Sebaceous adenomas are the most likely culprit I think and they typically are seen after 6 years. Benign and not an issue. Most dogs get some bumps as they age. You can check with the vet next time you are in. I would only worry if it quickly enlarges or ruptures, both of which would necessitate a dedicated vet visit.
Our aged Aussie Terrier had what I think were similar issues. The vet said that they were no problem, but we had trouble finding groomers as the number increased. They preferred to work with younger dogs w/o bumps.
