Some dogs just seem to begin by pulling their front legs out of the water, but as he gets more confident that should stop. There shouldn't be a need for a belly float, poodles are good swimmers. There doesn't seem to be much room in the pool to really get going, maybe next summer try him at a lake.

Thanks guys. The pool has plenty of room (it's like 40ft long), but I haven't been throwing it far cause I was more trying to get him as comfortable as possible with going in since we're working towards diving not just swimming and he isn't super fit for swimming as we can only go so much and only get so many turns. I would like to find a nice lake we could swim in.

With a body like that, flaunt it. Shake off that snow, dive into the pool, be king of the hill. He looks so happy in your great pictures.
