I know it is possible to register a non proven purebred dog through the AKC and UKC, but I'm not sure how to go about it?

Does anyone know how I would start the process?

I didn't even know it was possible. Your best bet is to contact your local poodle club (or whatever breed you are trying to register), or contact the AKC/UKC directly.

Even though the dog is not a mixed breed...

Actually - AKC is now allowing mixed breeds to compete in performance events starting this April, so if they won't do an ILP (a number for a purebred dog without AKC papers), you could always go with the mixed breed program.

UKC is pretty easy going about registration - they allow mixed breeds also.

Good on them!! NZKC has always had a separate 'obedience' registry for any dog to be able to compete in obedience/rally/agility etc, including mixed breeds and pure breds that weren't registered as a pup (ie, like Paris) it opens the world up for those cross breeds to be able to go do the fun stuff that the others get to do! And some of the fastest agility dogs are cross breeds!!
