(I know, groans all around, pun intended)

So, after our walk to the park today I decided no more.
Wood

You guys, this was the SECOND ROUND of brushing burs out of Lilah. They are insane. They were on her neck, legs, body.
So, Amazon prime’d a Wahl trimmer and erm, well, got to work.

At this point I was ready to give up.
Why oh why did I think this was a good idea?

And, well,

Dog Canidae Dog breed Miniature Poodle Poodle

Here is where we stopped at - post bath, blow dry, brush, trimming. She was not having me finish her feet and face but we’ll give it a go tomorrow. She also wasn’t having pictures as she was very worked up.

Anyway, hope I have more success tomorrow and here is our first stop on the journey to home grooming Lilah. fml.

PS. Why did no one warn me about the fur literally everywhere in my bathroom. Lol

Yes, that hair gets everywhere! I like the way you did her tail in the last shot.

Well Renn is cut short and he still is picking up those pesky things. I have started, andes I'm probably crazy to pull them out of my backyard b y hand. My plan is to get as much up as I can, then poison the yard and have soil brought in then se-sod. Its making me cray.

Thank you! I’m going to miss the big fluff ?

Seems like your little Gracie has the same big ol’ floof on her too. So sad to see the puppy fluff go. If we had been in Montana she could have kept it for a while!

See our problem is we don’t even have our own yard it’s just an apartment and they have those landscaped gravel areas instead.
? they’re in everyone’s yards though.... so when we walk down the street and she does her business on the street side of the sidewalk grass, yep, she gets them. All this was from the park though!
I hope you can get rid of them without having to completely resod!! if you can find out what type of burr they are you might be able to get them to stop growing with certain nutrients or whatever...
Depends on what type of soil they like!
Well I *sort of* got her finished. Had a really hard time with her feet and her face - then forgot we had a vet visit for microchipping and rabies ? poor babe, she must be so frustrated. I got a good picture of her in the sunlight... not the best but hey it’ll grow out. Her coat is definitely changing I think she is a blue for sure.

Thank you! Hopefully my second time will be better. I’ve got a lot of practicing. She did pretty great for her body, kinda antsy about her tail. She doesn’t mind the scissors and was mostly still. Her feet and face were another matter. It was very hard and she struggled a lot and I didn’t manage to finish her feet or her face.

For the face and feet, do it often, like once a week. Do a little bit, for maybe 10 seconds to start, then treat. Increase the duration slowly and keep treating. You can use a closer blade for the face. I use a 40 on my 5-in-1, which might be the equivalent to a 30 on a one length blade.

I totally meant to say “I have a lot of practicing to do” oops.

That’s a good idea. She does fine at the groomer, or at least that’s what the groomer says but with me? Nope. Ahh, the trimmers on the face worry me so much. I split between half trimmer and half scissors. She’s much better with scissors, but both worry me on her tiny face! The feet idea I am definitely going to be doing. The hair on her legs is still so so soft and silky but her back is already starting to change at 6mos. The one thing about doing it yourself is I actually noticed the white hairs in the underside of her paws, which I’ve read on here is a tell tale trait of a blue. How long did it take you to figure out the feet without being afraid to hurt them?
Feet are tricky on a wriggly puppy
I have a 5 in 1 blade & kept it on the longest setting for quite a few months until I felt sure of my clipping skills & then went shorter & shorter
Now I find clipping easy but time-consuming!
Having an adult dog is easier grooming because their calmer & used to it
It will happen with your pup, just takes time
She is so pretty, and I think you did a great job, you’re braver than me for sure. I am not tackling full grooms on Gracie yet, although she is much better with in between trims now. As others have offered, I load those sessions up with many treats.

From the pic in the car, I can see why you think she might be blue, but it could be the sunlight. I’m no expert though, and don’t know what to expect with the coat of a blue dog. Be fun to see how she grows out. There is an adult standard blue at my agility center, and she is striking.
