Speaking as the former manager of a shelter - this was very well done. We tried to keep dogs as long as humanely possible (if they started declining in their mental or physical health, we'd have to make horribly difficult decisions regarding their lives) It never failed to amaze me that surrendering families could actually leave their pets with us... I could never do it in a million, trillion, gazillion years... I wish everyone would make the same promise to any pet they bring into their home that I make to my pets... I promise, once you become mine, that you will be a part of my family until the day you die. And I promise, as long as I am physically able to, to accompany you to the veterinarian when you make your final journey so you will have a familiar, loving person with you until you take your last breath. I have held every one of my pets who had to be escorted to the rainbow bridge in my arms until the very, very end. It is my promise... Well done, MakeShiftHeart - You nailed it!!
I could never ever banish my dogs to a shelter .I would feed them low end food and scraps from my own plate before i would ever leave them. You made a promise to those babies by bringing them into your life.
