You gotta show him who's the pack leader :)
How do i do that?Iv been tapping his nose is that right??

Everyone has their own method that works. I don't believe I've heard tapping the nose works... that just to them in my opinion makes you seem someone who's not stable and not sure how to lead which may be why he's doing what he's doing. Also, I`ve noticed that a reward is way better than a punishment. Meaning when he does something good give him a treat or a piece of regular food... if he does something bad just say NO! firmly and don't pay him attention if he keeps doing it. If he stops and comes to you or what you want him to do when you say NO give him something. I don't believe he`ll relate flicking his nose to anything at all.

I use a modified pack leader kind of thing... using my fingers as teeth I push his neck and or grab it to put him where I want him. Now keep in mind I don't do this aggressively or mean like to hurt him but a nudge or a push.

Also talk in a firm voice... "come her boy" calmly is way different than "come here!" firm but not yelling. And I can say the same thing to my dog ove rand over in a playful voice and he never listens if I talk firmly he listens that second.

I think if you google "How to be a pack leader" you`ll get a bunch of different ideas.

Well I think as posted in someone elses thread you can't really walk away while grooming since the biting barking will have worked and he got what he wanted and you stopped bothering him.

He is a poodle and will need grooming so personally while I don't think tapping on nose is the trick a loud AH AH would do it with Casey. Some needs more firmer and a quick little shake on the collar NOT a shake the heck out of the dog but just a little grab and shake to remind him. biting is not acceptable.

Now your boy may not be feeling all that great so I would keep each brushing even shorter then on a well puppy 5-10 minutes always stopping on a good note with treats for even the shortest stand while brushing.

Puppies nip as that is all they know but how hard they nip is another thing.
I do the loud OW each time and that shocks them into stopping.
I will allow myhand in their mouth if they aren't hurting I want them to see a difference.

Everyone has different opinions this is what I do.

Thank you both answers are valid and good i shall do both :)
Brush a few strokes, then give a small treat. Brush some more, say "good boy", give another crumb. Associate the treats and positive reinforcement with the grooming. Give a nice big treat and lots of love when you're finished. Start with a small brushing session, then add more each time.

Tapping the nose just makes the ritual more unpleasant. Respond appropriately if he really bites you hard, but generally positive works better than negative when it comes to training.

Chief comes to us for his brushing. We say "come here, you're gonna get brushed." We hold up the brush and he reluctantly comes over and allows the brushing, every day. We always finish with a treat.
I am actually going through the same thing with my 3 month old toy/mini poodle. She tends to nip me a lot some times soft, other times hard. Then she likes to bark and growl when she does not get her way. She is a stubborn puppy to say the least! Haha.

I have also tried being firm, as raising a puppy is a whole new experience for me. I just try to stay consistent and trust me as you prob know its hard not to get angry sometimes. I agree i give out a loud yelp when she bites too hard or I ignore her after telling her knoe. She gets it sometimes, but other days she is back to her old ways. Best of luck, your not the only one so never feel lonely!!!

I'm with T- When my dogs become aggressive or show inappropriate behavior, I use my hand like a bite and touch them firmly in the neck and say "no!" firmly. As soon as they show any sign of relaxing (a sign of submission), I relax the touch. If they start to act up again, I make the touch more firm again. When they display the proper behavior, I give them a lot of praise, hugs and fuss over them so they know that they have done the right thing.

The dog has to see you as the pack leader because that is what is normal in their world. Otherwise they will take over and you will have difficulty getting respect from them. This can lead to all sorts of problems.
