4/21/2021 was Elroy's Gotcha day! He's 8 weeks old, plus a day! He made the 1 hour drive home, on my 85 y/o Dad's lap, without a hitch! Very cool, calm, and collected! I'm going to start this thread off with some pre-gotcha day photo's! The journey begins!

Elroy had his 1st playdate today. He and Buddy sniffed each other cautiously for about two minutes, and then became increasingly friendlier as time went on. They were best buddies by the time they tuckered each other out!

Elroy all tuckered out after his play date! He's 9 weeks old (yesterday) and sprawled out he's already taking up 28/29 inches and his head and feet aren't even stretched out!

Elroy's a natural in the garden! He wants to, and does, help with everything! Most of the follies aren't captured on camera.

And here's his designated digging area! There must be some truffles down there!
I know, I know. Not the best clicker timing. I think he was over threshold there!

Here he is playing with a 4" annual pot. The simplest things make the best toys!

Up until this evening, Elroy has paid zero attn to squirrels and birds which are numerous in the yard. Tonight he took interest in some sparrows squawking in a shrub, then he made a bee line for the shrub, and flushed them out. Prey drive awakened!

Great video! So lively.
I'm not sure if this is a coincidence, but my boy likes to pee and poo on hoses too...
As far as I know, that was the only time he pee'd on a hose (I have several). He hasn't pooped on one yet either. When I'm using it, he does think it makes a good chew toy though!

Nice to see him being a dog! Gorgeous pup!
Yep. He's being a dog already! He's already going up and down flights of stairs too. 2nd floor bedrooms and basement are within reach now. He's followed me to each level. He was scared to come down the stairs the 1st time, and I showed him how to do it. I didn't have to show him a 2nd time. Today, for the first time, while he was zooming around, he ventured up the stairs while I wasn't even up there. Gotta keep my eyes on him!

Since I'm not supposed to walk Elroy where other dogs have been, I took him to a relatively new, 100 acre open space, area in my town. It used to be a golf course. The owners wanted to sell it to a developer, and the town bought it instead. We had a good, meandering, 2½ hour walk & sniff! He saw some geese, and a number of other wild birds. Explored tons of plants, grasses, and wild flowers. Played with some caterpillars, and chased a Moth. We were the only ones there, except for a young teen walking thru with a fishing pole. There is a swift flowing brook running thru the area, but it was deeply eroded/gorged so not too much access. We did get down to it twice, and Elroy dipped his feet with little hesitation. He was quit tired after the stroll. A good day indeed!

HAHAHA! I had a good laugh from that perfect progression of pics. Elroy is being the perfect puppy specimen, exploring the world with his mouth. Such a CUTE boy! I want a black standard poodle, and this thread is making the fever flare up.
I thought I wanted one of the creams Donna had. I'm soooo glad she new better and gave me Elroy! She new how much I was into gardening, and said "you really want a black..."! He's been gardening as much as me!

Elroy had his 1st bath & blow dry today. He was apprehensive of the water at first, but after a little while, I think he actually liked it a bit! I towel dried him, mostly patting and stroking dry, then I brought him downstairs and tried to comb and dry him on the floor, me trying to restrain him. Treats and all, that didn't work so well, but so so. Made some progress though. Then I moved him onto the Kitchen table with a 3' shop clamp to use as a tether and a kitchen throw rug as a non slip aid. He let me comb him much easier up here, and after treating him a bunch to get used to the drier, he let me get the job done. No more complaints. I Know that towards the end he was loving both the combing and the warmth of the blow drying. All in all, a good first bath & dry!

Elroy's going to stay at my Dad's house tomorrow (Sunday) while I go on an all day motorcycle ride with my buddies. This will be his first day away from home and me for more than an hour or two. I think he'll do fine with Dad. Dad and Elroy have bonded really well with each other. I left him toys, food, an x-pen, and a few other amenities. Hope it goes smoothly. Dropping him off at 7:15am tomorrow!
Awwwe! My first time away from my baby!
