Teddy is now 18 months. A great pleasure to have with us. At the beginning of October he had his neutering and gastropexy (laparoscopic).

Since then he's gotten into a really naughty phase, he was relatively well behaved before but now seems to actively search out items to destroy in the house and to get rough and mouthy (calling it biting would be too harsh) with the family members.

I feel like I read this is fairly normal for the "teenage" years. Just wondering though.

That, and the teenage months. I well remember the shock I felt the first time Sophy looked at me and indicated she was now grown up, and didn't have to do what I said. A few weeks of back to basics and good rewards worked wonders, until the day she actually killed a young rabbit (it was far gone with myxomatosis, and a happy release that absolved me from having to act) - she then made it very clear that she was not only all grown up, but also a capable and mighty hunter, and didn't need me for anything! She carried the rabbit all the way back to the car, at which point it dawned upon her that she couldn't jump into the car even without a rabbit... And suddenly swapping it for a treat became a good idea after all!

This too shall pass...

Javelin is 17 months old and still intact, but yeah, I feel your pain. I was at my agility trainer on Tuesday morning and after spending some time to try to get Lily to realize she needed to collect her self to get out of a tunnel and into weave poles that were straight ahead of her to little avail we put her away and took Javelin out to work on agility related impulse control. We did wait on the table and then wit and release to a jump. He was doing pretty nicely and then all of a sudden lost his head and started circling around me and jumping up at my hands, not trying to bite but with his mouth agape. He landed a couple of teeth on the back of my hands and since I take low dose aspirin I have nice bruises now. Teenagers can be charming and they can also be jerks. A month or two ago I would have said Javvy was 70% jerk many days. Now I would say he is 30% jerk more often than not. It will pass.

Maizie has gotten so much less jerkish at 18 months old! Today she found a piece of foam in the yard and normally she would have played keep-away with it, but I looked her in the eye and firmly said, "Maizie, drop it," and she did! I also took her to the park for an off-leash run in a large field. When I felt she got most of her energy out, I told her "whoa," which means stop, and she listened!
