I'm honestly just curious about this because I keep expecting her coat to get stiffer and it just...doesn't. It's definitely curlier so in that sense it's changing but it's as soft as always - basically feels like soft curly human hair. Is this her adult coat? It's probably not "proper" for a poodle but I honestly love how soft it is - so pettable and doesn't really tangle or mat
at all.

The outdoor pics are when she first came to us at 15w, the others are tonight (for some reason the thumbnails are appearing in a weird order and I can't figure out how to move them).

You're right to think that if (is her name) Stella's coat is soft, it's probably not a "proper" coat per the standard "Coat: (a) Quality - (1) Curly: of naturally harsh texture, dense throughout."

It's possible that her coat may still change closer to the breed standard, but it's just going to depend on the coat characteristics that she inherited.

As you say, it doesn't truly matter, you love her as she is ✨.

Oh yeah, she's just a family companion dog so I don't really care about the breed standard at all - I honestly prefer it this way! I was just wondering if it was possible that the transition was done, I was braced for it but if that was it I didn't even really notice it happening at all.

Scribble is also a black (for now) mini. He just turned one and I’m starting to find mats but not yet clear areas where his coat feels different. I have a feeling that’s around the corner. It’s possible her coat will change in the future. Scribble went from fluffy puppy hair to soft curls to ??

His half brother, Blueberry, definitely has a more poodley coat.

Bennie’s coat change was definitely a process. She wasn’t nearly done at 11 months and in some ways I still see it changing at over a year old. Like Rose said, it’ll depend on more than age. But my best guess is this isn’t the end for your pup. Enjoy the tangle free time now while it lasts 😅
