Default When Did You First Groom Your Puppy??

Hello All!!
Wondering if everyone would chime in as to what age you first took your puppies to the groomer? Or groomed them yourselves?? And what all did you have done?

Has anyone had a fairly young baby fully shaved down?

My baby is hot!! Just wondering about everybody’s opinions on shaving his body at 12 or 13 weeks.... He’s in Central AZ and it’s already around 92. I am already cranking the AC for him as I can tell he his sensitive to the heat. I want him to be comfortable!! Are there any caveats you can think of to doing this? Would I be messing up his coat for the future? Opening him up to skin conditions?

Just trying to do some due diligence any and all responses appreciated!!!

I trimmed Milo pretty short at around 10 weeks. He was a summer puppy. No issues, he had been groomed at his breeder since he was 4 weeks old. I also shaved his face, I started with a 10 blade, you need to get the skin used to it. However the bigger issue would be trying to wrangle a squirmy puppy. He will get used to it very soon.

Haha! Squirmy puppy! I tried to freshen up his face yesterday and that’s all I got!

I kno the groomer worked with him a bit but not sure how much 😕

What do you mean by ‘summer puppy’?? Is that supposed to affect them? Rocco was born in January in a cold climate. So he is a winter puppy!

Oh- haha- I meant ‘breeder’. NOT groomer. He can’t go to a groomer til next week.

I think Asuk just was referring to the fact that it was warm weather when Milo was a pup. You could try using a longer cutting blade if you don't want a nekkid pup. I also think a bit of hair can be both cooling by keeping direct sun off skin as well as insulating if well fluffed and air trapping.

Javelin had his FFT done three times by his breeder and I think I did the same within a couple or three weeks after bringing him home to keep him understanding that grooming is part of being a poodle.

Awesome! So.... sounds like shaving him down will be good all around. I surely want him to get accustomed to grooming and be as easy as all those poodles in the grooming videos on YouTube 🙂 hahaha

Be careful not to clip too short so he doesnít get sunburned.

I usually take Noelle no shorter than a 4 blade in the summer. Long enough for the benefits of sun reflection, short enough that when she splashes in the kiddie pool it doesn't take forever to dry.
