Firestorm! I didn't know what spiralizing meant so I looked it up. Spiralized Shanghai Beef and Broccoli | Skinnytaste That is soooooo cool! I must get that appliance. Noodles from broccoli! How much better can it get? Learn something new every day. Thanks for sharing. I hope you continue to share your innovative and terrific ideas on this thread. Love it!

Siskojan...hope you get over this soon. Have you tried the vitamin powder called Emergen C? It's really good I think and my ex swears he's found the cure for the common cold. He mixes that with one of those other vitamin things that dissolve in water...those effervescent tablet things. I tell him that's not a good idea because it's over dosing on some vitamins that you shouldn't have so much of but he doesn't listen. I tell him I'd rather have a cold than a damaged liver. But he still doesn't listen. lol. Anyhow, one or the other might make your mucus membranes heal up quicker.

Poodlemanic...thanks for that very interesting article. It's amazing but not surprising how all the body systems are dependent on a healthy immune system to function at their best.

I haven't heard of Emergen C and I'm not sure if I'd find it here but I'll look next time I get out. I'm pretty much the same as I was otherwise.

We are supposed to go to Vancouver on Monday for a dinner with friends, but one of the friends is about to have 2 major surgeries so I think I'd best keep my distance from him and besides I don't think I'll be ready to cope with 2 hours on a crowded ferry, all the socializing, a very late night ( I know these folk) a motel and then the trip home. DH is fine to go it alone and they are mostly his old colleagues. We thought about saving Sisko the trip to the kennel overnight but have decided he should maybe go anyway. We were lucky they had one night available for him at short notice so I hate to mess them around and cancel. It is ages since he has been there and as he is booked to go in there for most of September it'll refresh his experience. He really likes them and it's mutual and at least this time it'll be over quick!

I enjoyed the article too and was fascinated by spiralizing broccoli. I'm off now to prepare some broccoli the traditional way - oh if only I could taste it!

I use Emergen C a lot! In the winter I work a lot with folks visiting from Europe, plus I work a lot longer hours. So I usually take Emergen C because all of us Americans get sick from the European visitors and they get sick from us. It's all those different bugs we aren't used to. Emergen C, peppermint tea, manuka (spelling?) honey, and colloidal silver. That's my go to when I'm sick.

Poodlebeguiled, if you are going to get a spiralizer, I have the Veggetti Pro. It's very easy to use and was around $20. There is a blog called Inspiralized that has tons of spiralizer recipies. My broccoli one was modified one from there, because I can't follow a recipe without changing it. Hers called for basil but I wanted dill with the feta.

I made it through 11.5 minutes of the horrible ab workout today, so that's something.

The good news here is that I can smell things a bit and finally have my taste buds back at about 80% power! Meal time is definitely more interesting. I am down another pound. It is 7 weeks until we go on our trip ( Germany, Czechia, Netherlands) so I'm hoping I can get another 10 lbs off and then some nice clothes I already own will fit very comfortably but won't be hanging off me. The challenge will then be to stay away from sugary confections in European bakeries. We did a similar trip 2 years ago (river cruise)and didn't gain weight on it - lots of walking and the food was very good but not served in ridiculously big portions. DH is enjoying his looser fitting shirts and he's happy to have the big salads I make everyday for lunch.

Oooh, just saw this thread. Can I join? I've been losing weight for a few months now. Been doing the low carb thing as it allows me to lose weight without getting off the couch. . Roughly 20 pounds so far. I'd like to lose another 10 so that would get me below 180lbs.

Rick

Omigosh Poodle Rick! You've got a head start on us! Fantastic though. Wow, wow, wow. You're a good boy! Click/carb. I think cutting out carbs is a great way and that's what I'm trying to do but not entirely. I'm cutting out some. lol. Since you're good with pictures, it would be cool to see before and after pictures. You've really lost a lot. Way to go!!!! Share some more of your menu secrets and also healthy secrets. This is not only about losing weight but other ideas too. I just found this today. It interests me a lot. But of course, one has to like mushrooms. Look what huge nutritional benefits there are.

Mushrooms, crimini

Congrats again PR!

Siskojan...I'm glad you're feeling better and your senses are returning. Your upcoming trip sounds wonderful. My daughter and her dad went last year and her dad is from Czech Republic originally. So they visited there with his sister and other family, went to Germany, went on a boat tour down I forget which river. They did loads of walking, as one must in Europe. And the last little while, went to Greece where they enjoyed some warm weather and a lovely time. I hope you have a great trip too. Hope you take loads of photos and come back and show us. I think you can lose a bunch of weight by then and it will make you feel better. Be sure to walk a bunch now and get in shape. I hear there's just loads of walking. One day I hope to make the trip as well. Good luck!!!

Here's a pic of me in 2014 in Boulder in front of the house that was used as the setting for Mork and Mindy. I was all neck and gut then.

And this is where I am now. It's not a current pic but I don't have any as I'm usually behind the camera

Hey Rick - it's good to have you with us. Great job on your 20 lbs gone. As of today I am down 9, and doing the low carb thing is what works for me too. I wore a pair of capri pants today that I couldn't zip up a month ago.

I think I want to live in Mork and Mindy's house!

PB - Thanks for the interesting mushroom article. I find it hard to keep track of all the things that are good for us in our diet and there's not often any information about frequency and quantity. I guess you can get some things like turmeric in pill form, but so many of those capsule things turn out to be inferior preparations that don't actually do anything much at all. So on the whole I have always tried to eat a wide range of mainly non-processed foods and hoped for the best.

A few years ago I read about the Anti-Estrogenic diet - got the book - and lost 30 lbs in fairly short order and felt great but then I reverted to eating flour, grains and sugar again and gained it all back. I didn't buy all the expensive supplements but did take milk thistle and a capsule called Estrosmart, I bought organic everything and stayed well away from anything soy.

I like to spend way too much time knitting. There are so many lovely yarns and interesting techniques and there isn't enough time to make all the things I'd like to have or the family would like to have. It is relaxing yet keeps the brain active. To counteract my tendency to sit too long knitting and binge watching Netflix I have set up the Wii. The goal is to get up do something fun and active for 10-15 minutes every hour or so. This has been on hold while I've had the coughing spasms and plugged sinuses but I hope to get back to it by the end of the week.

Holy hotness PR! Way to go! That is definitely success.

Siskojan, I want to live in that house too. Isn't it just darling? You did great to lose so much weight. But that's the trouble with fad diets that are sometimes too restrictive. You wind up reverting to old habits. I think I'll take things slowly and gradually lose some weight since I'm not in dire straights exactly.

Yes, too much sitting is no good and I've been doing too much the last while here. So, I'm going to bed. lol.

I'll pop back on tomorrow probably. You done good girl! Get over this cold soon, hear?
