Has anyone used the Muttluks dog snowsuits (the ones that go down to the ankles) on their standard poodles? The snowballs on my spoo Ben's legs and chest is driving me crazy and thought maybe that snowsuit might help. Or, if you have other suggestions on controlling out-of-control BIG snowballs, I'd welcome them! He comes in looking like one big snowball which I cannot dry off because the snow sticks like velcro! Thanks for the input and suggestions!
I use Muttlucks boots but for the higher part of the legs and the chest I put just a little bit of grapeseed oil before I go outside, it gives a nice shiny look to his fur and keeps the snow ball from forming. I keep is hair short by using a 13mm blade all over his body. We have dry snow here most of the time so I am not sure it would work in wet snow.
I went through the same issue with Sunny last year. Most of the coats with legs were very expensive (www.poodleit.com and http://www.hurttacollection.com/) I also got a small sewing machine for Christmas, so it might be a nice project! The legs drive me crazy.
We have had 6-8" of snow here since x-mas. The first few days my poodle was grubby and dirty and gross (from the mud that was here before the snow). When he was dirty, he was bringing in a ton of snow balls. I bathed him on the 27th, washed with a deep cleaning shampoo + a heavy rinse out conditioner + spray on leave in condition/brushout spray and he is only bringing in a little bit, from the snow that is actually falling. I really like it actually because he has been totally clean for multiple days in a row! he is never clean, there is always dirt... but now the dirt is frozen!
Here's Lily in her snowsuit and muttluks boots (no I don't own stock!). This has worked very well in the winters where we had lots of snow. In addition to keeping the ice balls at bay it has allowed her to stay out and run in the snow, which she loves and is awesome exercise for both dogs to chase each other through the drifts.
Yes the fit was good based on measuring. It isn't stiff. She runs and digs and does all her general crazy play in snow kinds of things. It is hard sometimes to get the right fit for poodles since they are so deep in the chest, but this worked out fine based on the chest measurement.
