Grooming room is in progress!
My dad is currently working on my grooming room, and is planning on having it finished this weekend! I asked him a couple months ago and never got an answer so I didn't think he was going to go through with it...but he randomly came up to me a couple days ago and said "Michelle, I'm going make you a grooming room, I'll start on it tomorrow and it should be done by the weekend". Cant argue with that!
He is making a custom tub with a ramp (ramp can be attached and removed when needed) and he is also adding more light fixtures and outlets to the room and I'm painting/decorating it once its finished...I'm beyond excited. I've been on petedge all night buying everything I come across lol so far I've got a couple different shampoos and conditioners, grooming loops, apron, brushes, combs, ear cleaner, blades, blade wash, blade lube and coolant...there goes my paycheck!
Just some more exciting news...I'm also planning on attending a dog grooming academy this coming Spring, I can't wait!

That is fantastic. I hope you post pictures. How are you going to set it up? I am sure you will be a star pupil at the dog grooming academy, Atticus always looks ready for the cover of Dog Fancy. It sounds like your Dad is very supportive of your choice of career.

How wonderful, Michelle! Your father knows it's wise to "invest" in your grooming career because he knows a good thing when he sees it, and you're it!!! I hope you post pictures of the room when it's completed. I'm really pleased for you! And if you need a silver miniature poodle to practice on while you're attending the dog grooming academy, I'll bring Chagall over

Congrats!
After doing my first full body groom on my spoo boy yesterday, I have a new appreciation for grooming. It took me 2 days to complete! Allot of work. I dont suppose anyone would ever hire me...Im way to slow...LOL

Thanks for all of your support! I'm happy to have people I can share my excitement with.
I'm still trying to decide on a color for the room. Right now I'm leaning towards a light pink, blue or purple...I'd love to do a light green but I'm worried about it reflecting on the dogs making them look yellowy. Any ideas for a color?!

My room is a light blue. I love the color. White is too stark & bland & can be a bit reflective. I am not a huge pink fan so would actually never use that color. Blue & green are my favorites.

Michelle: Color choice is such a personal thing, but since you asked...
Consider that color changes with the light, so my suggestion is to pick a color you like, paint it on a piece of poster board and place it around the room at different times of day. Or, just paint a big enough test swatch on the wall to get a truer idea of how the color will look in different light. Paint stores typically sell small sample size jars. (We repainted nearly every room in our home last year. I own up to changing my color choice four times in one room alone because the sunlight changed the color so much.)
The general rule as you probably know is light colors will reflect the light and make a small room look larger, while darker colors will "pull" the walls in and make a larger room feel cozy. Eggshell or satin paint has a soft sheen finish that holds up well to repeated cleaning, which you'll need in a grooming room.
I especially like a color I chose for one of our bathrooms, it's called Woodlawn Blue. it has a very spa-like feel. But again, color is a very personal thing and you may want to go with green or purple.
Whatever color you select for your grooming room, I know it will be dazzling. I can hardly wait for the reveal!!
[Please forgive me if this is TMI. I am still suffering from "paint-over-thinking-brain" following our housewide interior painting project.]

I love to see how people do up their space for grooming...
We need pictures to see it all done!
Bless your dad!

I think the poster board is an excellent idea. It is amazing how different a room will look depending on the time of day. I would say blue will probably show off the dogs the best. Photographers often use that as the background color of choice but you are going to be in that room a lot so pick whatever color makes you feel happy. I recently painted a princess room with all different Disney colors. Bibbidee bobbidee blue is a lovely light blue. You can find it T Home Depot. I am excited to see what you pick. Have you decided how you are going to organize all your loot?
