Hello. Harry is a jet black poodle and about 7 months now. Daddy black toy and mummy brown mini. Recently I had shaved his face to see what the look would be like on him. (Was like having a stranger in the house!) however will go back to his fluffy teddy bear face.

In the gradual grow back I have noticed the fur around his lips are tinged brown bit the rest of the face is black. Is this due to water staining? During the day he drinks from the water bottle on the cage and when I'm home he has a water bowl with a float on top that prevent him dipping his whole face into the bowl.

What can I do to get rid of the stain besides shaving?
Would prefer not to shave his face again as its like a stranger in the house!

Dogs with fluffy faces get staining on their mouths. I don't know if you can get rid of it. That's one reason I prefer clean shaved faces. Hopefully someone else may have a tip for you!

It's probably staining....have you tried filtered water? Also no canned food or colored chews, they tend to stain fur. Keeping the beard as dry as possible also helps, as does a daily face wipe. Really there aren't many options, staining is a part of life when it comes to beards! Angel's Eyes is the only product I know of that almost always works for beard/eye stains. However many people object because its a low dose of antibiotics.
