Hey everyone,

Hoping someone can help me... Calvin HATES being groomed, bathed, clipped, etc... He doesn't try to bite or get aggressive, it's more like he just gets scared. He looks unhappy and his tail is down, yet when I let him go, he's happy as Larry and does laps of the house... No matter how much I try to make it a positive experience, he just doesn't like it. I've tried talking him through it, and he's just not interested in treats. As we all know, poodle grooming is not optional, so it really is an issue and I feel like such a horrible parent. Any help is appreciated :)

None of my dogs "love" grooming..it's more of an "ok I'll tolerate this because I get cookies afterwards" sort of deal. Trev has even gotten to where he offers his feet for brushing. Just keep doing it, reward for good behavior, and don't coddle or fuss over her. She will eventually learn that it's not as awful as it seems. :)

Continue at it. Harry hated it the first time. Now it's a mixture of tail poked upwards to just being very matter of fact about it. Early on, one trick was to bath him in the afternoon when in a nap like state so he is less bouncy. Nothing more uncontrollable than a bouncy puppy!

I make bath day a regular routine. I do exactly the same thing step by step so he knows what to expect plus nice treats and praise with each step. I cannot emphasis on the treats enough!! LOL

The latest trick leant yesterday is to blow dry him at his favourite place in the living room; looking out at the window. He is so preoccupied that he takes no notice of me, hair dryer , comb or brush.

I agree that you just need to continue to do it and he'll get used to it, and maybe eventually like it ;)
Lily isn't thrilled with baths but tolerates it, but she loves being brushed, except for her bottom! I just have to hold her up and continue to brush and she knows when we're done she gets her teeth brushed and she loves the chicken flavored toothpaste.
Don't get discouraged, just persevere :)
