Ok, so I have decided i love grooming:) This was my first attempt at any type of clip on porter, up until now he has basically been in a puppy type clip. so any pointers or idea would be great. btw dont pay attention to the background in the pictures, i took them where my husband is in the process of building me a grooming area.

what are you using and are you wanting to leave him to grow out or still have him tidy in this length? I am not experienced in show poodle clips at all, i am just a professional groomer, so my tips will be just for making it smoother. I suggest you use a #30 blade with the metal Wahl combs and skim your shape. this eliminates a lot of scissoring untill you get better at it. comb through the hair and redo, comb and redo.keep a picture and a groom book near by and keep checking it. Make sure when you are drying that you slowly do one section at a time and straighten as you go, this will give you the best finish. i will be experimenting on my own spoo pup once i get him, so justwatch me eat my words! haha

I think you have done an admirable job for a rank beginner!

What is your objective with this pattern (future Plans)?

A few things you will need to do:
(its really hard to tell from the photo quality)

Blow the coat out as straight as possilble
Don't skim with blades, use the clipper combs for lengths shorter than that which will need to be scissored.
Don't let the pack (chest hair) get so long in the front that you lose the definition between the forchest and front legs. There should be some definition there because the front legs should be set under the front of the forchest (from the AKC standard: (a) Forelegs - Straight and parallel when viewed from the front. When viewed from the side the elbow is directly below the highest point of the shoulder.")
Take some length off the bottom of the chest (ribs) it should be level with the elbows.
SCISSOR SCISSOR SCISSOR!

You are well on your way :)

i know i need to work on the drying alot, right now i do not have an actual grooming dryer. i did all the blow drying i could with my regular hair dryer, pin brush and a comb.
I was trying to do sort of a scandinavian trim, just for fun. thank you for all the tips cameo i really appreciate it.
