Yesterday, we helped reunite a "lost dog" with it's owner. It was not an easy feat. On Thursday, a little yorkie without a collar showed up at our school. He was out on a busy street, so we took him in. Our school is in a residential neighborhood, so we asked around and posted signs immediately. I then took him to my vet to scan for a possible chip. Voila! He had one. The vet's office located the pet finder company and they supplied us with two contact numbers. Unfortunately, both numbers were inaccurate and the pup was from an area of town many miles from where he was found. We were feeling a little worried. One of my employees offered to take him for the night and foster him indefinitely, which was wonderful.
I decided to pursue the pet finder company for more info on the registered owner. It was worth the effort. I ended up with an email, the dog's age, name and when he was registered. I emailed the owner and within ten minutes, she replied. Hoorraaay! The sweet boy was reunited with his owner and sibling by 9:00 am the next morning.
One "lesson learned" from the experience was: the owner stated that she had not changed her contact numbers, nor her home address since registering her dog. Perhaps it is worthwhile for us all to check our microchip companies contact info for our registered dogs ...just in case
