I wasn't worried about Nova. She is fully vaccinated and a healthy adult, so chances of her getting parvo were very, very slim. I was more worried about Bridgette. She's fully vaccinated, but only 7 months old and recently got over a UTI so her immune system wasn't entirely intact. I coraise Bridgette with another puppy raiser, and she had Bridgette all week last week so she wasn't really exposed to it. I called the service dog organization as soon as I found out it was parvo and asked if it would be ok to bring her home, since I was supposed to take her on Friday afternoon, and they weren't really worried about it either.
According to them, and my vet, parvo is essentially everywhere and you can't get rid of it. The bleaching was for my peace of mind, but the vet told me up front that it probably didn't matter whether I did it or not. It can live in the soil for years and many dogs shed the virus without ever being affected by it. The ones that do get sick are the very young, very old, or immune compromised.
