Rest well, Gimme
This past week, we lost our dear 3 year old Shih Tzu mix, Grimm. A week previously we was fine, then I noted small hemorrhages on his abdomen after investigating what I thought was a bug bite. Took him in for bloodwork and he was diagnosed with Immune mediated Thrombocytopenia. He was still acting normal at that point. We started him on meds and several days later he became anemic.
We took him to the specialty center, where he received a transfusion of packed cells as he now also had Immune Mediated Hemolytic Anemia, which apparently sometimes goes hand in hand with ITP. He came home a few days later, still weakened. He was placed on an additional med to attempt to suppress his immune system, which was now attacking both his platelets and red blood cells. He rallied for a few days and then crashed again. We couldn't find a donor of whole blood who matched his type, so we were able to find a facility that has dogs with universal donation blood type. He didn't make it the two days until the shipment got here, though :( He passed away at home.
One never expects to lose a dog so young, so suddenly. Particularly one who had always been so extremely healthy. We use a limited vaccine schedule, feed healthy foods, etc. The house is very empty without our bouncy little clown. He was a gentle soul who was a friend to everyone and every creature.
Rest well, my Grimm

I am so very sorry your for your loss. I know you packed a whole lot of love into Grimm's all too brief life, and you did everything imaginable to help him. I lost an 8 year old dog to IMHA, and my best human friend has TTP, so I have seen the sudden devastation of these awful diseases. Grimm looks like he was one very special dog.

It's never easy to lose a family member, but we can be better prepared when our pets get on in age and give us time to come to grips with the fact they won't be with us forever. My heart hurts for you that little Grimm was taken from you much too soon and much too quickly. His picture makes me smile, though. He was definitely a darling pup!
Keeping you in my prayers!
Barb

Grimm looked like such a happy pup, I know how you will miss him....it's good to remember that he is not suffering now and bouncing around in heaven. I'm glad he had such a wonderful home with you...
