Default Hunger Games books!!

Just wondering if anyone else has finished reading this series. I've got about a million other things that I need to do but once the final book of this series came out (Mockingjay) and my son finished it and let me get my hands on it, I had to read it!
I loved that the author didn't sugar coat anything or did a 'happily ever after' ending. It had twists (nasty ones), brutal examples of wartime tactics, some very harsh moral choices and allowed the characters to be changed and scarred from their experiences without apology's.
Brilliant young adult books. MUCH more thought provoking than many popular young adult fiction books out there today!
I know this is a poodle/pet forum, but I don't belong to any book/reading forums and this series has me just humming with excitement wanting to share and discuss it!!!

I've been wondering about this series but haven't met anyone yet that has read them. Great to hear your opinion!

I love it. I finished the first two books and am almost finished with Mockingjay.

My niece started reading them when she was eleven or twelve. I guess it depends on the child. There is quite a bit of graphic violence and death in them.

my sister is reading them for school and shes a freshman but I've read part of it and I think depending on what YOU feel comfortable with that it would be fine especially if shes reading that much
FEEEEEEEEEEEEEED her reading!!!

I was 13 when I started taking my moms Romance Novels because I'd read everything else in our house XDD ((War And Peace doesn't make sense when you're 12...FYI))

My son is 12 going on 13, and if I have any reservations about a book I'll read it before him. However, the Librarian recommended the book to him and she knows him fairly well.
NeVar, I guess it depends on what you think your child is ready to read and their maturity level.
Other great books for kids of this age level are any of the childrens books by Garth Nix. The Books of Umber (Happenstance Found is the 1st book in the series). The Warriors series, 'The Hunchback Assignments'. Christopher Paolini, Andy Briggs and P. C. Cast's books. Rick Riordan's 'Lightning Thief' series. The 'Golden Compass' series (with some serious reservations).
That's all I'm putting down because I asked Kyle to give me his favorites and now he won't stop and I can't type that fast.

I love kids that love to read XD
maybe thats why I can't WAIT to be a reading teacher...XD such a dork... >.>

but seriously encourage your children to read all the time, reading is sooooo paramount to a well balanced INTELLIGENT kid with a strong vocabulary!

((and definitely always read something when you may have an inkling about its content))
