Quality Camera
I have always had a love of photography and am considering investing in a high quality camera.
I currently use a basic digital Canon point and shoot camera. I would like to upgrade to a higher quality camera (still digital) so I can take more artistic shots, capture movement, etc.
I know some forum members have nice cameras. I would love some suggestions!!
Thanks!

I'm no pro, but I have been very happy with my Panasonic Lumix! I can't remember the exact model, but this is the one that came up on Amazon when I looked:
The auto setting is great and figures things out in a lot of different settings, but you can also do quite a lot of manual shooting. If you're not quite ready for an DSLR but want to step up from basic point and shoot then you could definitely do worse!
I also love how portable the camera is (although not as portable as a tiny P&S). My parents have a fantastic Canon DSLR and while I love it, I find it really heavy to lug around with all the required lenses. Mine has a pretty good zoom for its size and is no problem to carry with me. I took pretty much all the photos you will see me post on this forum with it!

my go to camera is the Nikon D40 I don't think ANYTHING will ever surpass it in my opinion...I even grab it when I leave the house instead of a point and shoot XD
but I do plan on buying the D90 but I don't know when...or how much I'll actually use it because of how much I love my D40
oh and the D40 is sooo easy to use!
Ken Rockwell
I love this mans photography, and he explains the ins and outs of his favourite cameras as well
thats a great place to start when considering more than just a point and shoot ^_^

I am a Canon person, although I do know the Nikon is just as awesome. I'm a lazy camera person, who wants her cake and eat it too. I want those awesome shots but not have to work a complicated camera to get them. I just traded in my digital rebel, which was the original rebel. It quit, and I had a chance to upgrade though Canon on a EOS D7 for a great deal! The only thing is, now I have a spectacular camera, and I feel I better deserve it by actually learning some things. I love action shots and this should do it for me. Its 18 mega pixel, so the detail is amazing!!!
This camera is also used in some high end photography schools.
I've only had it a couple of weeks, and haven't had time to do my homework yet, but I hope to soon and sure hope to see a difference in my photos.
Good luck in your hunt, both Nikon and Canon have a range of quality cameras, just make sure you do a bit of research and read reviews.
Here are a couple of photos I recently took.

Spoowhisperer, those pictures are gorgeous! hat setting did you have for the one of your red baby? So very vibrant.
I personally use a Fuji Finepix S5100. It's a nice camera but I am really looking to get a simple P&S because the fuji is just to bulky to take with me for everyday use.

I have a Nikon Coolpix P60. I chose it because it has 5x optical zoom. Its reasonably small and takes good photos. But things have improved since I bought it. Also, the lens get stuck out when you take video, and you have to take the batteries out and put them back in again to fix this.
Next time I would buy a Canon. I am really a Canon person.
However, I was at a camera shop and the sales person there told me that cameras over the past two years have become a lot more flaky. He says the lens sticking is not an uncommon problem and in his opinion the cameras are made cheaply and its easier for the manufacturers to replace a cheap camera than it is to make them better in the first place.
Now - isn't that the way with everything? Planned obsolescence??!

I agree!!! His reviews are so in depth its amazing :]]]
I tried convincing my teacher that it would be in his favor trade me his D90 for my D40...he didn't go for it v.v;
and Purley most point and shoots are made like crap even the big name brand cameras, but whenever I invest ((because thats what it really is once you figure bag, lens, camera, etc costs...its an investment >.< )) I want a company who knows what they're talking about and have been doing it for awhile ^_^
my very first SLR was a used Nikon FM 10 that I bought at a yard sale for 100bucks so I will always prefer film over a digital ((though its much more convenient to have digital XD ))

I have a Nikon D40X, which was replaced by the D60. I want a D300, but that will be a long time off
