I had been going to the same hair stylist for about 10 years (hubby and daughter also went to her) She knew my stand on spay/neuter but insisted on talking about the litters of kittens she had and that she was going to "get rid" of the older mother cat and keep a boy and a girl out of the last litter and keep breeding them (these were just garden-variety domestic shorthair cats) because her kids loved to experience the "miracle of life"... that was the last time I (or hubby or daughter) ever went to her for a haircut... idiot!!!

Our of curiosity, I looked up what a Chinese Crested/Yorkie would look like... come to find they're called Crusties. Poor mix! They're called CRUSTIES... like a scab!
And this reminds me of my adult cousin... she bought a shih tzu from a pet store a few years ago. The puppy ended up having a bad eye (probably due to terrible breeding and hygiene issues) and had to have expensive surgery to fix his eye, which he would most likely end up being blind in. Puppy pulls through the surgery, only to die a few weeks later out of the blue. Heart problems, vet says they were genetic. (So they're breeding dogs with bad hearts and bad eyes... LORDY!)
The pet store gives my cousin a new puppy because her other one was still "under warranty". She takes him in to get everything checked out because of her experience with the other puppy, turns out this one has a heart problem, too. He had to go on medication immediately and will remain on the meds until the day he dies. Expensive. He is also moody, and shy, and doesn't like to be around people or other dogs. And my cousin took him everywhere are a puppy, so the socialization problem isn't due to her.
People never cease to amaze me.

My question is what exactly makes her think this will be a "cute breeding" Have you seen a crested mix lately?? Now I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cresteds don't get me wrong. I reeeeaaallllly wanted one for the longest time, still do really, but my heart lies with larger dogs I think. Anyway most of the time the little adorable crested mixes that I run across are anything but adorable except to the people who own them, love being blind and all. It makes me sad that the other dog in this equation is a yorkie, to me that makes it worse. But that's just me who isn't a big yorkie lover. Not that there is anything wrong with Yorkies... apart from the evil biting ones that I sometimes find myself face to teeth with from time to time
Ok wow, I guess I've written enough to annoy crested and yorkie owners alike. Sorry, that's not the intention.
Perhaps this lady should offer of her time to work a weekend or two in a shelter. When I had to go spring Jazz it was really eye opening. I had actually never been in a shelter before and I was nervous and antsy just being in the building and I cried and cried seeing her in the run all huddled in the corner with about 30 dogs barking in the background. Brings tears to my eyes just thinking about it and it was almost two years ago. Even my mom who at the time hated Jazz was teary eyed that day and it wasn't even her dog and she was super mad at hubby and I for going and adopting a poodle. For that matter she wasn't really my dog yet either seeing as how we had just adopted her and then lost her the same day when she slipped the piece of crap collar her previous family had on her right outside the petsmart we had just been in to buy her among other things a new collar. Note to self: put new collar ON before leaving store next time. We were very luck to get her back at all...

Without commenting on whether this will result in a cute mix or not, this woman is living in lala land so anything she says comes from there.

"Against stupidity the gods themselves contend in vain."
Schiller
But the thought of "getting rid" of the mother, in order to keep breeding siblings together, goes beyond stupidity into realms of unkindness, ignorance and selfishness I would rather not explre - I don't think the words I am already thinking are allowed on this board!

I agree (and I LOVE your Schiller quote! Sooo appropriate...) This gal was brought up as part of a large farm family here in ND. Farm life (and farmers' thoughts on the animal husbandry of farm cats) is far and away different from those of us who have educated ourselves on good breeding practices of companion animals.
Colonies of farm cats interbreed quite frequently on farms and it's "no biggie" to these farm families, it's just the way it is! The term "ignorant" is spot on. Besides the sheer stupidity of breeding siblings, she was adding these potentially genetically substandard kittens to a planet already overburdened with homeless pets because she wanted her kids to experience the miracle of life (I actually told her to take her kids to the local shelters on euthanasia day to experience the miracle of death that her actions encouraged!! )
I'm a rescuer and a fosterer as well and I will not stop doing what I do, but I also get very discouraged with the mindset of some people who think that just because something has a uterus it should be bred!

This lady has been to the shelter recently looking for yet another of her escaped dogs. She came into my office the next morning and went on and on about how heartbreaking it was and she left there in tears.
But you all know how it is...hers will be especially cute, she'll easily find homes for those that her friends and family don't want. And most importantly she'll never "run out" for the rest of her life!

*Shakes head* that's sad. Makes the dog's sound like soda or something. I worry about running out of olive oil not dogs or cats... Then again I don't lose my dogs or cats (*knocks on wood* I don't want to inspire anyone to try and make a break for it lol) often so it's hard to put myself in her position I suppose.
