Default It's awful to witness animal cruelty..

..I've read stories, heard of encounters people have had but never have I witnessed something like this myself. My boyfriend was driving and I was in the passenger seat and we saw about two cars ahead someone toss a pit bull right out of their truck and nobody made an effort to stop.. Of course when we got there we stopped to check on the animal who wasn't getting up at all..he had a few bite marks and scratches on him, not really enough to be a fighting dog but perhaps a bait dog? I have no idea..we took him to a vet who will at least vet him and look over the wounds and disinfect them.

I can't turn him over to animal control, they will euthanize him right away..pit bulls don't come out of that fascility.

After all he's been through he wouldnt stop wagging his tail..i have no doubt that this dog is friendly. He didn't growl or show any signs of aggression at other dogs at the vet..several owners were sure to grab their dogs and kind of move away from me..he was just there on his side wagging his tail..

I hated having to wait in the waiting room..it was as if those people were just waiting for him to jump up and attack their dog..but this one owner thought it was cute that her yorkie was barking/growling the entire time..that didn't seem to phase anybody.

I've never been around too many bully breeds..they're beautiful animals and i've never really came across a mean one. My parents had a pit bull/mix when I was growing up but that's about my only experience with them.

I have planned on getting another dog..not sure if people saw my other thread but we were planning on a Briard..my heart goes out to this pit though. If he turns out to be friendly and okay around my other dogs he might be staying..at least until I can find him a safe home/rescue.

He was great at the vet..even whined a bit when he got his shots but didn't show one hint of aggression towards the vet. I'll get pictures when I bring him back from the vet..he's staying there overnight.

I also might see if perhaps he was stolen..he has had his ears cropped but they were professionally done..it wasn't a hack job by any means. Someone paid to have it done at some point..and it's not cheap..so it doesn't strike me as something someone would have done to a dog just to throw them out of a truck later.

I wonder if he was stolen for fighting purposes and when they realized he wasnt a fighter just discarded as trash..no microchip but once he's a little better I'll definately post a few ads and see if people who are missing a similar dog can call me with a description of the animal. I'm definately not going to turn him over to just anybody..whoever owns this dog better have proof of it. He's been through enough!

What a horrible thing to witness! It is so lucky for that poor guy that you were right there to scoop him up (he very easily could've been hit by a passing car, especially if he was disoriented at all from the fall out of the truck!)

God bless you for helping him (I would've done the same - and a hex on the people who just drove by!) and please keep us updated on his progress. What are you calling him? The first name I thought of was Clarence (the angel in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life") because Clarence was an angel from heaven too! Good luck with him!!

It entirely possible he was stolen as a bait dog. Many pits are big old marshmallows. That's why we have a lock on our fence. The first neighborhood we lived in, a neighbor's dog got stolen by a fighting ring, right out of their yard, so ever since we've made sure our fence was secure. I hope he feels better soon. Thank goodness for people like you!

I hope he finds a great home whether it's with you or not. I know you would provide a great home for him. You're awesome for picking him up too.

How bad was he injuried ? I only ask because when dogs are sick or injuried they do not at like their normal selves. Just word of caution when he recovers keep eye and see how he reacts to other dogs.

Second please post picture of him here if you think he might be stolen !
See if anyone knows anything about the dogs ( sense you said his ears where cropped nicely )

You can either post or send me info so I can post I am a member of all of these forums

I was thinking the same thing...it can take some time for any dog to settle in to themselves......he sounds sweet though. But just be careful.
I could not imagine seeing this happen. I bet you were pissed and hurt, God people......I cant help but think what would these people do to their children?

He wasn't injured badly, few cuts and scrapes and many of them seemed to be older cuts, he was limping a little bit from being tossed out of the truck but the vet said nothing was broken just a sprain and basically said he'll just have to walk that off.

She said the cuts did not look infected but she was going to disinfect them anyway, he will get a rabies vaccine as well as bordatella so that I can have him neutered at the low cost clinic.

She also said it looked like someone had tried to file his teeth... someone wanted to use him as a fighting dog but I guess he just didn't have the temperment for it and that could have been why he was tossed out of a truck. I suppose he could have had a worse fate.

I'll get photos soon Roxy! He's a very well built dog, i don't know much about pits so I have no idea to judge if he's well bred or not. His ears to me look professionally done but i'm no expert. I'll get photos to you as soon as I can and maybe you will know more.

The vet has someone on staff that can temperment test him and that will be done once he's feeling more like himself as well.
