Default Concerned about my ear..

So I'm hoping that maybe we have some nurses or people with experience of this issue so that I don't have to pay a pretty penny to go see a doctor, as i don't have health insurance..

A few days ago I was cleaning my ears out and my right ear just seemed like it was not getting any better by having just the q-tip treatment. So I thought I remembered hearing one time that peroxide works for cleaning ears, so I soaked a bit of toilet paper and wrung it out in my ear.

I had this chronic pain shortly after of severe burning so I quickly poured water in and washed it out. The pain went away, but I haven't been able to hear right since..

I figured that maybe it just hadn't drained out properly so I let it alone and just kept my head tilted throughout the day..still nothing.

I then tried using Alcohol..that didn't seem to work.

So I slept on that side over night hoping to wake up and be able to hear..nope.

I dipped my head in the tub to try rinsing it out..didn't work.

So I'm wondering, did I give myself an ear infection or cost me my hearing permanently? :(

I'm not a nurse or doctor, so I can't give you advice! But I did use Dr. Google and came across someone who had the exact same situation as you.

I personally would try to see a doctor or nurse. Or you could always go ask a pharmacist their opinion. You hopefully just have some wax blocking your ear now, but you don't want to start messing around and permanently damage your hearing. Just my opinion!

Oh and you should always be carefull when sticking q-tips down there too.

I'm not a nurse, but I've had a similar experience.

First off, you should dilute the hydrogen peroxide with water. Half and half. I burned the inside of my ear pretty bad from using just plain peroxide after using alcohol in it too, but in the end it worked so I was pretty happy despite the pain I had for the next few days.

What happened to me was that I went swimming, and water got into my ears at the pool. The water moved the ear wax in my ear so that it was blocking the opening so I couldn't hear. I thought it was just water and used alcohol, but it didn't work. Looked up some remedies on the internet and figured it had to be ear wax since alcohol was clearing up the problem. I started pouring peroxide in my ear and let it sit until it was really in my ear and it stopped bubbling. Then I let it drain. It wasn't pleasant, but it was starting to work. I rinsed and repeated a couple more times and viola problem solved. It did cost me a few days of ear pain. I couldn't touch my ear or move it because the inside hurt whenever I did. The half and half solution should remedy this though.

If you had insurance I would say go to a Ear and Throat doctor to get it removed. They use more effective methods and are usually quick and painless.

I had a similar thing happen, where after a shower my ear felt clogged or like something was blocking. I used a baby nose syringe and blasted warm water in there and it seemed to clean out what was blocking water in my ear. Not trying to sound gross, but it looked like wax and possibly dry skin? I have never had anything happen again or before that. Very strange. BTW... I don't know if I would do the whole blasting water in there if your ear is painful... I had read on the internet to do that and it was driving me so crazy I tried it. I would worry though if there is something other than just debris in there that what I had done could possibly hurt your ear more? I google everything.

That's a similar to one of the methods a doctor might use. They have this machine that shoots water into your ear so that it dislodges the ear wax.

I also thought I'd correct a typo in my previous post. It's supposed to say "alcohol *wasn't* clearing up the problem".

I have had to get my ears flushed many times and we have been told to use poroxide and other times have been told to put baby oil in it for a few nights to loosen the wax then flush it with warm water at docs.
Goodluck to you ear pain sucks

So the pain has gone away but I still can't hear all that well :/.

My friend at work yesterday dragged me into the grooming room and put that herbal dog ear cleaning in my ear and believe me it was the strangest thing ever!!

However it seems to be working, as I got a little bit hearing back but not much..so I'm thinking a daily trip to the grooming room might help it over the days, I hope so. :( I want my right ear baack :(!

I'm thinking it is just clogged and the only thing that was causing the pain is the fact I tossed straight peroxide in it. Dumb me!

I know you said you do not have health insurance and are tight on cash but I would seriously go to a clinic. There are two things I never delay to see a doctor for 1 is my eyes and 2 is my hearing.

As I type I am making an eye appointment because something has been going on with my left eye.
