When I get my toy poodle, I'm very interested in her becoming a therapy dog. I understand she will have to be very well trained & socialized for this. I believe I'm up for the challenge. (: But I do need some more information about it. Are there any organizations I could go through? What commands should she be taught to insure she doesn't cause trouble? Also, I live in San Antonio, Texas, so if you know of anything around here that would help, I'd appreciate it!

I'm not sure about San Antonio but here is Los Angeles, Zoom Room provides such training, not sure whether its good or not though. According to their website, your puppy needs to attend the obedience classes then pass the Canine Good Citizen test before he can start training as a therapy dog. I'm no expert though but am thinking also to train my Charlie as a therapy dog.

Jazz got certified as a therapy dog through Therapy Dog International which is less stringent then Delta. The test was given by an independent tester set up by the obedience class he was in. It was done on the weekend. We now are going into an assisted living home and after getting used to that, he will be cleared for the local hospital and cancer center.

Look here Therapy Dogs International

Jasper is a therapy dog, Lilah is not. I really think that it has more to do with the temperament of the dog. Specific training was minimal for Jasper as he is a natural and loves his "work". I would discuss your plans with your breeder and they should be able to help you get a puppy with the right temperament.

As a team, Jasper and I visit a local dementia ward regularly and next month starting R.E.A.D at one of our elementary schools Read Team Steps
