i price my stuff at yard sales- everything! i take the time to put stickers or tags on it all and i tell people "firm price or come back at noon" who ask.

at noon-ish time, i start taking tags off and will accept offers.

i understand the "its only worth what someone will pay" from a buyer's perspective, but from a seller's i think, "its only worth selling for a certain amount." otherwise i'll either keep it or try selling through a different venue or at the next yard sale. no biggie.

That's cool! I don't do yard sales but anything worth selling I have sold on Kjjij. If it's something that i would consider worth more then say 50.00 i will NOT back down I've sold things like birds (i breed cockatils and sell them for 80.00) it gets really annoying when i get "well you sell them for 40.00? I think that's really insulating! I have put alot of time and effort into my birds and some joe blow is trying to lower a already low price???!!! I DON'T THINK SO! I also use to breed pedigree sheltie puppies each for 500 AND i've had people ask me to lower the price for various reasons so trying to get them with poor excuses like "I'm on a fixed income or a single mother or this and that! It never seems to amaze me what people will say to get something for nothing!!!

Poodlemum82....I have bad memories of some people who didn't understand how much work and time it takes to feed a neonate from day 1! I'd like to see if they could feed a baby bird every 2 hours 24 hours a day for 2weeks, then every 4 hours for another month! Cockatiels are a little easier, but still a lot of work. And man are they noisy when they want to eat!LOL! I miss my parrots, but not the work or expense!
Are you doing mutations or normals? Color breeding is pretty interesting!

Wow, I can't imagine what breeders must go through to sell puppies. I wonder how many times a year poodle breeders on these forums get haggle phone calls and sob stories in their email about how their children need a puppy!

(in reffernce to bird breeding) We have One pair currently who LOVE to make babies they are a Normal Grey and a Pearl coloring but we also have 2 white faced (male and female) and a male who I really don't know what he is (he has all different colors) I haven't had to hand feed I guess I am lucky in that sense but I have had to go threw the time to "tame" them from the day they are hatched i handle them up until the day they go home they can sit on your shoulders/hands etc it takes ALOT of my time! I think 80.00 is more then fair considering a non-tame cockatiel in the pet store is 120! As for dog breeding I went out of that business a) don't have the space 2) It takes ALOT of time!! (so can bird breeding!! Bird feeding is expensive (12.00 A BAG (PER WEEK) WE HAVE a total of 12 birds ( 6 cockatiels 4 budgies and one finch! We hope one day to have baby budgies too! I guess the worst bit to breeding birds is when they die (the babies) it's really sad..! I think anyone going into breeding should go into it for the "right" reasons...it isn't about the "money" it's about the love of the animal and wanting to send out something and share something with others (Yes I realize their are many animals in shelters (not so many birds) but puppies in shelters! But My birds well they only go to decent homes !
