Having my say...
Forums are nifty places. But I have come to think they should be prefaced with a warning. Something similar in nature to that on car rearview mirrors, "Objects in the mirror may be closer than they appear." Only the warning might be, "Do not blindly accept anyone's self-professed expertise. Consider carefully any training, health, or nutrition advice offered. Check with your vet or other qualified professional as appropriate."
Recently, a member known for her lengthy, substantive posts was shown to be not as trustworthy, ethical, or legitimate as many believed. That gave me pause. It made me think how the door here is open to all comers. Some who pass through may yadda yadda on in an authoritative voice, touting things that may not be safe or so. A prolific contributor is not necessarily reputable, or offering the soundest advice. No one here is vetted when they join. Someone can present themselves to be an astronaut, a ballet dancer, a lion tamer, an expert anything. Doesn't mean it would be wise to follow them into outer space, see them n a tu-tu, enter the lion's den with them, or take their views as gospel.
The length of time someone has been a member is not an automatic measure of their value. It has bothered me more than a bit lately to read posts from "vintage" members reprimanding "new" ones, challenging their right to express their views.
One last peeve; those who seek attention by posting to "shock and awe" or to deride others. Why do I share this? I always said when I was "old enough" to say whatever was on my mind, I would. I'm a grandmother three times over, so I'm grabbing that privilege now. There, I had my say. Feel free to have yours.

You are right in what you say, so well said!
I am new to this forum but by no means new to life or animals. My other passion is showing & breeding Siamese cats. The cat world is littered with forums where people take on their alter ego. Cat forums are a nightmare where bullies and trouble makers thrive. Posting provocative stories and berating anyone who has an opinion of their own. I am glad to see that on the whole this forum is a happy pleasant place with nice people offering sound advice for new comers to the world of poodles. Recently though I have read a few post where I have thought "oh this sounds like a cat breeder" Some people should get out more and in extreme cases get a life.

Welcome, thanks for chiming in! And for proving my point that "newbies" can bring as much value as the good "ancients."

When I was young, my job required me to be at tons of public meetings of one type or another. What I noticed was that the people overpowering the majority in communications really had the least to offer, they just offered it louder.
This is a great post!

You just brought back a memory of an Anne Landers column, written long ago, in which she said, "He who has the least to say says it loudest." I must have read that when I was 14 or so, and it's stuck with.

It's a pleasure. Although working in the Prison Service in Psychology you tend to see things from a different angel. I must say sometimes reading posts on forums is better than TV. I am pleased to say that on the whole this is a great forum and we are getting lot's of good advice and ideas. Like most people on here my main aim is to have a happy healthy poodle.

I just wanted to comment on cat shows. I took my friend, a dog-person to a cat show - she was amazed how different it was from dog shows. She said "I think cat people are rude." lol It's a little different - dogs pull to greet people, the show cats are just sittin' in their crates chilling. Some cat people will gladly let you pet the cats, some won't give you the time of day.

don't kid yourself, tokipoke, a lot of the people at dog shows get really annoyed if anyone tries to touch their dog!
