Angry PayPal Fraud

Just a note to anyone out there who uses PayPal and who confirmed their account by linking to a bank account. (If you haven't, DON'T DO IT!)

My account was compromised today. I'm not sure how these losers get the information, but a charge was made on my PayPal account FROM my actual bank account (not the credit card associated with the account).

I'm in the process of trying to cancel my PayPal account entirely. I can't even do that, or unlink my bank account, until the dispute is resolved. It's frustrating because even as the account holder, I can't stop this transaction. PayPal SUCKS.

To make things worse, my credit card was also compromised today. Thankfully, I'm with an org that takes immediate action and my account was cancelled and a new card is being issued by Thursday. (Some of you will recall this just happened to me a month or so ago.)

So, in short, any and all future group buy payments MUST be made via Money Order or Cashier's Check as I refuse to use PayPal again. Ever. I had linked my bank account so I could made direct transfers from PayPal to my bank to my credit card. It was the fastest way to pay off the group buy payments due to the large transactions. Big mistake.

I hope nobody else has to go through this with PayPal as it's a nightmare.

I really want to . There's no firearm emoticon so the pummeling one will have to do.

I'm canceling mine as soon as I'm able to do so.

I wish I'd never signed up for an account!!!!!!!!! It just annoys me that they can't STOP a transaction when the account holder calls and advises, a) they didn't make the purchase, and b) the account has been compromised.

Hello? Instead, they insist on allowing the money to be withdrawn from my personal bank account before they take action. That is friggin' ridiculous!

That IS crazy! I cancelled mine as soon as I finished the previous post.

I hope things are resolved quickly for you. I have always been pretty giving with my credit card numbers and such when buying online....but, after having my purse stolen from my car IN my driveway a couple of weeks ago...I'm tightening up now. Lesson learned.

Thanks. I was reluctant to link my bank account, but after speaking with a PayPal security rep and being assured it was secure, I did so. Lesson learned. The hard way. If I can save one person the heartache and stress, I'll be a bit further back from the ledge.

I'm not very giving with my credit card info because I used to work fraud with USSS. Not pretty. I hate people who do this.

Unhappy

Sorry to hear of your terrible problem with PayPal. I don't see how anything can be safe online, anymore.

Mine is not linked to my bank account (just a card) for the same reason. I had someone buy $600 worth of poker chips on an online gambling site. I hope you get your money back quickly.

Did you get yours back? My issue is just under $400.00.

I did. I think it took about 5-7 days? It was a couple of years ago, so I don't remember.

So it's possible to have PayPal without linking to your bank account?? How do you do that? I'd love to de-link my bank account and still keep PayPal.

(Came back to edit and add...I just went to my PayPal account and removed my banking information. All that's there, now, is my credit card. Since I still like to buy things online, including eBay, I'm going to keep the PayPal account this way for now. I never wanted PayPal to have access to my banking account, and I always chose the credit card route for payment, anyway. I had always assumed it was a requirement to have the banking info there. Was surprised it was so easy to delete.)

Rowan, I'm so sorry you have to go through this. Thanks for letting us know what happened. I hope everything gets resolved quickly.
