Default Urgent- dog poisoning continues in my local park

I would have liked to made my introduction on a lighter note, however there have been cases of poisoning in my local park which needs to be acted on, therefore I have created a petition.

I am new to this forum, there is something important regarding the safety of dogs in my local park that you may need to be aware of.

You may have heard about the tragic antifreeze poisonings of dogs in Lyme valley park , Newcastle under Lyme, Staffordshire over the summer months. Sadly the most recent case was a few weeks ago a beloved border terrier named Foxy had to be put to sleep as she had eaten some food in the park containing antifreeze, I have seen the report from the vet concerning this so I know it is the truth.

Eventhough the council have been urged to act, at the very least to put up notices to protect animals from futher harm, they have refused to act. Bearing this in mind my family and I have decided to present them with a petition in the hope that they will take the matter seriously. We have 110 signatures on the paper version of this petition and the online one was launched yesterday.

I urge you to please read the link below and sign the petiton, help to stop another dog being poisoned before it's too late :-

http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/stop-...lley-park/

we need as many signatures as we can get.

Thank you

Ellen J Ford

Welcome to the forum, Ellen.

A timely post. Coinciding as it does with similar incidents here in North America. Maybe we could get the mods to move this thread out of Introductions and onto a more appropriate board where we can discuss it away from yr intro.

But I should say that the link seems not to be working. It's taking me to maybe a home page to create a petition. Not to yr petition in particular.

Best of luck with it. I would be more than willing to add my endorsement.

Welcome Patsy - I often walk my dogs in Lyme Valley when staying with my sister. How appalling that such an excellent shared resoource should be made so dangerous. I can understand the Council not wanting to provide informastion for copy-cat crimes, which I believe was one of their original reasons for not posting notices, etc, but more patrols by community police and leafleting of dog walkers could only be beneficial.

Thank you for your response. I cannot understand the councils logic in not putting up notices, we have a right to protect our dogs and if people are not made aware that it is a real risk, another dog could be poisoned. Better to know and be able to avoid the park than not know and lose your dog(s).

pastypooch: Just signed your petition and I thank you for being proactive in this life or death matter. I am so very sorry to hear about these appalling episodes and salute you for doing what you can to put a stop to them, or at least raise public awareness. Though we are an ocean apart geographically, my heart joins yours in this effort. I just can't imagine how some people are wired, it is just unthinkable to me to see deliberate harm befall an animal. I hope your petition succeeds!

Hello
Thank you very much for signing the petition and for your support. I hope that this will spur the local council into action before another animal is poisoned.

Done! We, as responsible pet owners, do everything we can to keep our pets healthy and safe - hard to do when there are sick individuals out there planting deadly booby-traps for our unsuspecting pooches.

I wonder what motivates people like this... do they really hate DOGS, or do they hate people who love dogs? Or do they just get some sort of sick satisfaction out of hurting/killing anything (these are the kinds of people who graduate to hurting/killing humans!! You'd think the authorities would take these situations more seriously to avoid that in the future!)

Praying for all your pets' safety!

Barb
