Default Facebook and Social Media

How many of you use it? I'm on Facebook (mostly to maintain contact with fellow writers and friends) and I have a Twitter account. I never really understood the purpose of Twitter though! I love that many of the dog rescues are now on FB. It's easy to track adoptions and other events that way--almost in real time too.

I also don't use my real name on either, but a pen name (primarily because of my job and my former position).

I use facebook to keep in touch with friends and to stalk my children.
I do not really understand the appeal of twitter, it seems a bit narcissistic to me, thinking everyone is interested in every little detail of your life, but that is just me.

I love, love, love Facebook! I have met some incredible people because of it. In the past nine days I have had the immense privilege of meeting three people whom I have been FB friends with for over a year. After a dog show in Woodstock, Ontario, a wonderful couple from Delaware came up and had dinner in our home, spent the evening with us, and we all commented how we felt like we'd known each other forever. And this past Friday, another FB friend, her hubby and black Standard came up for the afternoon and evening and we went out and shared dinner together. Even the dogs liked each other! Without this incredible place, we may never have met.

As a breeder, it is just a remarkable tool. Instead of sending out emails to eight, nine, ten individual families, when someone first makes contact with us, I ask if they are on FB. Most are, but the ones who aren't, I ask if they'd please join. Then each day we post photos, videos, updates, milestones, which allows everyone, no matter how far away they are, to be part of the pups growing up. They get to share the excitement with others in the same situation as them.

Twitter does not turn my crank, but FB...one of my favourite places to be!

I use fb mostly to keep in touch with family and high school/college friends I would have otherwise lost touch with. My parents are now huge fb fans because it's easy for them to keep up on me and their grandkids that way! In fact when my dad first joined he was constantly telling people about it and suggesting they join. It was pretty funny and if I had been a bit younger I would have been embarrassed when he suggested one of my high school classmates join. (of course she already was on FB)

I used to be on Face Book, never used it, but cancelled a month or so ago. A friend called me on the telephone told me I had been in the Philipines, lost my luggage, plus I was using foul language. Said she knew it could not really be me. It wasn't.....

Some one was using my name and connection. That was about the 3rd time it happened, I kept changing my password, but it kept on happening. So no longer want to have anything to do with Face Book.

I guard my privacy too much to be on twitter, no one needs know what I am doing every minute of my life, nor do I want to know every detail of anyone else's life.

Tux, that's odd! Did you ever log into FB at a different location or using someone's computer or phone? My husbands ornery friend "hacked" his FB once after my husband checked his FB on the buddy's phone(he wanted to test drive the phone). If you check FB somewhere else and forget to log out then whoever uses it next might be ornery or mean enough to do that. Other than that I've never had someone hack my account, although I'm sure it could happen.

I don't ever remember logging in from any other computer, but could have from my Blackberry at some time.
I don't care for those social medias much anyway. I am normally a very private person.

I don't have a Facebook account and have no desire to ever do so. It's quite disheartening when the only access to a friend's pictures or videos are through that site. Likewise many links to special "groups" and "read all the details about it here!"-type links that I come across in the various forums I read.

I do have a Twitter account, strangely enough, though I post very little on it. I used to enjoy reading the various links and funny stories that one can find through that medium. Frankly, though, I haven't even opened my Twitter app for a couple of months now. Guess other shiny objects caught my attention!

It's not wise for people in my profession (middle school teacher) to participate in social sites--not without being very, very, *very* careful. My Facebooking friends have suggested establishing a page in my dog's name or something like that, and I'm not ruling that totally out...but there are other reasons, too, that I decline to participate. If I had children of my own, I'd get on just to keep an eye on them, but as it is right now...I'm holding out and steering clear.

'Course, I'm also the Last Person in America to Own a Cell Phone, too, having gotten my first one only two years ago...and now here I am typing away on my iPhone!

I am on facebook and I hardly ever use it. Most of the people I would love to communicate with on FB are not on it. I have a lot of senior friends and colleagues from my former employment who are not into FB.

Much to my son's chagrin I sent him a friend request...he hates his snoopy mom knowing what he is up to. I heard a radio talk show discussing how FB is losing a lot of followers because it has lost its exclusivity. Too many parents on facebook and it has become a major advertising venue for businesses.

Oh yes and the fact that I got a nasty virus from facebook. Someone or thing hijacked my friends account and when I clicked on a posting of hers I got the virus. She had to stop using her account because of it.
