Default Making signatures in Photoshop cs5?

I recently added Photoshop cs5 to my computer and I am having trouble figuring out how to use it!! I took a class in college where I used Photoshop quite a bit but it seems different now...

I am trying to make a signature with a photo, but everytime I drag a photo from iPhoto, its like one of Millie's eyeballs that takes up the entire blank rectangle for my signature. How do I make my photo smaller?

OR any advice on how to make a signature using PS would be great

Thanks!

I have CS8, so not sure if it'll be the same or not, but to resize an image I use the edit/transform/scale option, then you can drag to resize (hold down the 'shift' key as you resize and it'll keep the correct proportions!) or you can also reduce the size by whatever percentage (ie 50% of the size, or whatever)
