I know that here in Utah, our shelters are full of big black dogs, but there are waiting lists for people looking and waiting for small dogs. Many of these families, who would choose rescue first, end up buying from bybs because there are so few small rescue dogs with good temperaments in the shelters. There are so many big, black dogs that are put down because no one wants them, but when a small dog arrives in the shelter, it usually lasts only a few hours. In other places in the country, they're euthanizing small dogs because there are so many of them. We're getting a lot of these small rescue dogs transported here because the demand is so high and because they're not taking homes away from the lab and pit mixes that seem to fill our shelters. They're competing with the byb's and petstores.
