Default You're proud of that??

So, on another forum, someone was looking breed suggestions that would do well in an apartment with low-moderate exercise requirements. Someone recommended a Portuguese Water Dog and I replied after them saying that while there are always exceptions to breed standards, I strongly disagreed that a PWD would be a good match because they are SMART dogs with LOTS of energy.

The person who recommended the PWD then sent me a PM that basically said I shouldn't blindly follow the breed standard because all dogs are individuals (ya, I know, I said that!). They went on to say that they breed Border Collies, and a common misconception is that all Border Collies need TONS of exercise. They said their dogs were perfectly happy to lay around the house all day, and they gave one of their pups to a relative, and the dog never goes on walks, is only let outside to pee/poop a few times a day and the dog is perfectly happy.

I can't believe a breeder would be PROUD of that?!!?!

I didn't want to be rude, but I responded to the person by saying that if I were a breeder, I would be devastated if one of my pups, no matter what breed, lived indoors all its life.

UGH...I don't know why that made me so angry...

it made you so angry because that person was giving TERRIBLE advice to another person...

I'd be upset if I were a breeder and my puppies were living like that as well, dogs are meant to be dogs...they need to be exercised, they need stimulation and play
letting a dog out just to poop and pee is completely irresponsible and negligent in my opinion
and I'd have told that breeder exactly that!!
