In an earlier thread I talked about my sister who was thinking about getting a labradoodle.......
I convinced her to get a poodle instead! :bounce: AND I directed her towards a very reputable breeder and she is on the waiting list for a black, health tested standard poodle!
The puppies are still buns in the oven, so it will be about 16 weeks before she gets her new baby!
I am so excited for her! I am already thinking how I want to go with her to pick it out - but I should probably let her do that with her husband and kids...LOL
Just wanted to brag that I converted someone to the "poodle way".
Oh, and a question - the breeder is charging more for females than males, is this common practice?
FABULOUS !!!
I was at the vets today, and we were talking about the hybrid dogs as well as Pinky's Charlie
I as so happy that you talked sense into your sister, you must be on cloud 9 !!
Hahaha success! I think you really saved them a lot of trouble by avoiding the doodle thing (again weimerdoodle?:wacko. She is lucky to have you guide her with whatever puppy she picks out.
Yea! Good for you. I'm so excited she is taking your lead and learning from your experience.
There are other threads about the male vs female pricing. I think it's more common than breeders will admit. There shouldn't be a price difference. However, females are generally in higher demand which allows them to get more money for them. Market value is whatever someone is willing to pay.
For me, it would be a little red flag. However, if everything else was in order, it wouldn't prevent me from buying from that breeder. Help her ask lots of questions. She's lucky to have you!
I had never really heard about pricing males/females differently. But I do know that he is a very trustworthy and reputable breeder - he is the PCA breeder referral for the area, an active judge, has been breeding for 30+ years, and is the director of the PCA foundation
I have to admit that I am a poodle convert as well. My roommate was given a SPoo about 2 years ago from some clients at the gooming salon that we both work at. They had to rehome him because their other dogs kept attacking him (they train schutzhund dogs. They trained the SPoo too) and he was living in a plastic kennel. She wasn't a poodle person either, but he quickly converted us both .
6 months later I started looking for a SPoo of my own.
6 months after that, I brought my Ivy home.
My parents have also converted, although they will not be getting one until their Brittany's have passed.
Awesome! You should be really proud that you stopped someone from supporting an irresponsible breeder.
For those that absolutely won't consider a Poodle, there are Irish Water Spaniels, Portuguese Water Dogs and a few other breeds that are truly low shedding and have curly/wavy hair. If someone must have a "doodle" they should look into rescues, they are many there.
