Default What made you want to get a Poodle?

Ok so i was at work yesterday and a nice ladyw ith a black Spoo asked me why i got my Spoo. I had to think for a split second and then told her about working at grooming shops and the Spoos seemed to be the onyl well behaved dogs. They knew they would be there for hours so they stood allr egal on the table and almost seemed to enjoy the whole process (i was a bather back then).
I then went on to tell her that i like to have a dog that wants to please its owner, a spoo is a hunting dog and strives to please its master. I love that! Me and terriers dont mix, heck even me and hounds dont ha ha. I just prefer the intelligence and the beauty of a Spoo to any other dog breed.

So tell me why you chose the poodle?

We made a list and researched. (well, enough to know what we were getting onto)

This list consisted of what we wanted from a dog, size temperaments and shedding etc. After looking into poodles we were amazed at what we learned. I started talking to breeders and then my BF ran out and got Olie pretty quickly. He could not wait.......... once we sat down and agreed to the dog we wanted.

Now we have Suri found with a good breeder- and we love them both dearly. Suri is the ideal dog, and Olie is a growing pup!!

We have allergies at our house, so our first consideration was a pet that we could all be around. The second consideration was intelligence, and a dog that is a family pet. We had considered (terrible, I know) a Labradoodle, but then we met a few and were really turned off by the temperament. So, then we started looking into Wheaton Terriers and Poodles. The Wheatons we met promptly knocked my kids down. The Poodles were much more reserved at first meeting, and then warmed up. Then, the discussion of size started. We decided on a mini, because we both felt like Toys felt fragile, and might not be the best companion for two exuberant boys. We already have had two large dogs in the past, and moving two large dogs is hard, so we decided on the mini. He is perfect. I can't believe it took us so long to discover poodles!

My bf was a previous poodle owner. He really has a low tolerance for stupidity which is probably one of the reasons why he loves poodles. Also he is very thoughtful and loves that the poodle will follow you around. I used to think of myself as a cat person because I have had bad experiences with dogs but he has turned me as I learned more and more about poodles. Ivan is such a wonderful and smart puppy.

I wanted a large non-shedder...I was looking at picture books and reading about airdales, giant schnauzers and I saw this picture of this curly happy black puppy and underneath it said POODLE! I still remember that picture. That's what did it for me initially.

I never cared for them for a long time, but one day I just looked at them differently... took them "seriously" I guess, and didn't see them as some froo-froo dog.
The more I learned about them the more I loved them. Easy-going, happy-go-lucky personality, extremely intelligent, clownish but controlled, regal, and an awesome family pet. I began to fall in love with the grooming aspect as well. Brushing and pampering was something I was actually really looking for in a dog. If I didn't get a dog with hair that could be styled I would have gotten a dog with long, luxurious double coat. I was confident I wasn't getting a dog that would turn out to be "too much" for me and a smart one that I could explore training methods and techniques with. And not to mention... oh wow, poodles are just CUTE! (:

ETA: standards are also the perfect size in our small condo with no yard, and the fact that they don't shed adds to this a lot. My mom and I both love poodles, never thought we'd get one. (:

I got a poodle quite unintentionally as a gift from a neighbor. It was the best gift anyone has ever given me. I can't really see myself with any other breed of dog. Does that sound weird? Poodles and I just gel.

We had 2 (free mutt) poodle mixes as a kid, & they were 9) very intelligent.

My aunt had a mini, & then a friend down the street had a black spoo bitch (well, I liked her dog much more than her, lol). I have loved them since. What regal dogs.

Allergies and size initially. I knew a PWD wouldn't fit my life right now, and also might not fit in under my condo's pet size regulations. So I started doing lots of research on low shed smaller size breeds and created a shortlist.

It got down to Havanese and Poodles (Miniature or Toy). I initially thought I had decided on the Havanese, then we went to this Havanese picnic thrown by a bunch of local breeders and I just wasn't feeling it. I don't really know why! So I decided to meet a few more poodles, and decided they were the one for me. I guess I'll find out if I was right starting on Saturday!

I can't honestly say I have always wanted a poodle, or ever even thought I would have a poodle. But over the last year I have come to like them a lot (obviously) and am very excited to bring one home!
