Mamma's not nursing

I realize that my bitch is 9 and this is part of the problem. I took her to the vet for not nursing and acting lethargic and depressed. Last weekend she started getting out of the puppy pen before the puppies had their fill of milk. I started to increase her food intake by adding liver, raw chicken and cottage cheese (more protein and calcium) but it wasn't helping so I took her to the vet this past Thursday. They did a vaginal swab, blood test and another test of her pancratic function. So the results were a mild vag infection, and very mild pancreatitis (probably cause I was feeding her so much meat). So I took her to my shop to live AWAY from the puppies and she had to get the special bland I/D diet (yuk) and Clavamox tablets. So now she is chipper and bright eyed...all bouncy and happy again. BUT>>>>I think she is in heat! There is a small amount of blood and she is swollen in the vulva. I tried calling my vet tech friend but no answer so I will call the vet on monday. WHAT do you think? Is it honestly possible to be in heat while nursing (altho NOT nursing right now)? I am just glad she is bouncy and silly again. The puppies are adjusting well...they are 5 weeks today. I give them alot of attention, formula, moosh food and they are going out on the covered deck to potty now. They are still chubby and not losing weight.
Another question....ALTHOUGH she is on antibiotics, WOULD you allow your puppies to nurse from her now? I am NOT but its something I'm going to ask the vet tomorrow....just wondering???

I am sorry that I do not know anything about nursing - but I just want to wish you the best of luck and fast healing !!!!:rose:

It is great that she feels so much better already : ))) and that puppies are 5 weeks and chubby little guys : )))) !!!! They are almost at weening age anyway - so thanks god for that : ))) - I am sure everything will be fine very soon :hippie:

If she really is in a heat - than you better place your boy with a friend for a time-being *sigh. He will go nuts now that he "knows what it is all about " !!!
