(Not totally poodle related)

Have you ever met that perfect dog for your family, the dog you've wanted your whole life, but the timing was totally off?

What did you do?

I met that dog. Ever since I was a little girl I wanted a Husky/German Shepherd mix (don't ask me why). I just thought that would be a cool dog.

But mostly I always wanted a Siberian Husky. My mother wanted one too and had kept promising me one, but my dad (step) didn't like the idea of dogs in the house, especially big dogs. So instead we got a shih tzu. Then 5 years later I got my first poodle.

But I have always wanted a Husky but the timing was never right. Our first apartment had a 15lb weight limit so we got a Poodle, being that I had had the breed for many years. (I had owned 2 poodles and grew up around several, the whole family has poodles). When we were ready to get our second dog I started looking into Huskies again, and shelties. But the place we lived at the time didn't allow huskies. And then I found this little Terrier mix that needed me and well to be honest I needed her. So I adopted her 3 days later.

Don't get me wrong, I don't regret getting either dog.

I just found my dream dog last week. (And to think I was all set to get a bulldog in a few years)

Her name is Sophie and she is a 1 and 1/2 years old German Shepherd/Husky mix. And she is beautiful. She is fully trained. Her original owners put a lot of work into her. They gave her up because they were never home with her. And infact the trainer that trained her was brought out to the shelter to work with her, not knowing that it was Sophie she was going to work with until she got there.

She knows every command in the book, she is a little jumpy though but overall a good dog. If the situation were different, I would have brought her home. But we have a pretty full house right now and honestly we have a good dynamic here, adding another dog would be pure chaos. The time just isn't right.

I just hope I can find a dog like her when I am looking for a dog for my daughter. Because Sophie is a rare find in my book. She seems to be a happy well adjusted dog.

Anyways sadly I have to pass her up, but this is her (My dream dog) and a little about her.

From her petfinder page:
More About Sofie:
Sophie is a special girl, and she's going to need a special guardian. She's been trained and knows quite a few commands and is very willing to please, but she's very high energy and needs a home where she'll have room to play and a guardian who can help her to corral her energy into productive work. She's around a year old and so still has many puppy tendencies and can be destructive if not kept busy. But her potential for becoming an outstanding companion for the right person is tremendous. She's affectionate, gorgeous, and highly intelligent. If you have experience with working breeds and know how to keep her engaged in meaningful activity, please come meet her. She'll reward you with a lifetime of love and fun!

I just hope she gets the home she deserves soon.

Ohhhhh, I feel for you, I really do!!! I had the same situation; wanted a spoo for a long time, didn't want a pup really though, and didn't expect to be able to get one while I still had my terrier due to her dog aggression issues. But then a 4 year old spoo I groomed needed a home.... ohhhh, I wanted him! I even went so far as to try and introduce my terrier to him and work out if I really could have him or not. I couldn't really, I lived in a small place at the time and Riki went for him as much as she went for any dog, so I had to give up on my dream then and leave it be. He did find a great home and I kept in touch for a while, but they've moved further away now so I no longer groom him.

And later on, Paris came along, again at a bad time, but luckily she was released by her original owner to the vet nurse who worked next door to me, so over the following year or two I spent time with Paris, introduced Riki to her, trained her and dreamed about her, and while the time wasn't right at first, it eventually WAS the right time, and she came home with me on one glorious day, never to have to leave me again.

I *know* how heart breaking it can be to find the dog you want and you can't have it. I cried my heart out when I had to turn Harley away. I was so sure he was the spoo I could finally have. Turns out Paris was the dog for me, so I'd say that there's another dog out there that is meant for you, as much as this one seems perfect, the truely perfect one will come along when the time IS right, the universe won't have it any other way. :)

I feel for you too. It sounds though like with all the training she has she will probably get a good home. The shelter kind of sounds like they will look closely at any potential adopter since they mentioned "experience with working breeds" in the little about me that you posted under her photo. She sure is a pretty girl though.

I think when you truly run across that perfect dream dog things will wok out for you and you will not be able to resist. That's what I told my hubby anyway lol and he bought it.

So in answer to the question; Yup I have, I ran across my dream dog on CL by accident, it wasn't even my local C.L. but I couldn't get her out of my head.
The timing was really really bad...
We were adjusting to living in and maintaining our first home which we had just purchased and moved into from the appartment we spent most of our first year of marriage in. I had just changed jobs that month so that was slightly stressful emotionally. Wonder had also just had a litter of puppy - Mr Wonderful via emergency c-section (another strain on the budget) and she not enjoying being a mother and Mr. Wonderful who was only three weeks old was a lot of extra work as a result. Plus, it;s not generally a fantastic idea to bring a new dog who may or may not be vacinated and who's been exposed to and could be carrying heavens knows what into the home with a baby so young. Howie also doesn't generally like larger breed dogs and I had no way of knowing how he would react to a large breed adult, nor did I have any real way to be 100% sure that this dog was ok with smaller dogs, cats, housebroken, or even friendly. All I had was the word of somebody on C.L. who wanted to sell her.
All in all it could have been a real disaster!!! I knew I would be asking for trouble if I even entertained the idea of asking hubby if we could get her. The list of potential problems was waaay to long, plus the added expense of one more dog, a large one at that, to feed and care for.

Yet in spite of all that, almost a year and a half later, here she is.... :) Sitting in the lap of my spoodle hating mother I might add LoL.

She's about the best dog I have ever had and we didn't run into any trouble introducing her into the home except that she ran away before we could get her home and ended up in the shelter in Tallahassee where we had to go and pick her up. Wonder was terrified for the first five minutes and screamed and made this god awful noise the first time she met her. She got over that quickly and made sure to let Jazz know SHE was the resident princess and Jazz was just a dog. When he was old enough Mr. Wonderful and Jazz were (and still are even though he doesn't live here anymore) BEST friends. Jazz was almost perfect from day one lol. Saleen was not far behind her, we decided to get Jazz a playmate her size to play with since the little dogs were having a hard time keeping up with her. It was also a mistake to get Saleen when we did but that wasn't my fault entirely I didn't know what was to come so soon afterwards. We can blame it on hubby (even though baby making takes two LoL :preggers: ), yup all hubby's fault... that's my story anyway! I was TRICKED!!! LoL.

Sooo, like I said (and FD TOO) when it's really the right dog it will work out somehow and it'll just happen. :)
