Hide your holiday snacks! Poodles are lurking about!
T'was the Friday before Christmas and all through the house, the snacks were half eaten and strewn about. We popped over to the neighbours for only an hour, and returned to the house to find things devoured.
Our darling angel Ralph helped himself to a pile of snacks we had placed out of reach, but not far enough. He managed to eat a package of shortbread cookies, a (small)bag of pepperoni and even some chocolates (Luckily not many, and they were low quality, milk(almost white) chocolate). He also ate a lot of the packaging. This is the first time he has ever helped himself to anything! WE were shocked. Poor guy, had quite the belly ache, we could hear him grumbling and sighing loudly everytime he moved. He had a good poop before bed and was fine in the morning. Needless to say we will keep our snacks out of reach from now on!

Ah, nothing like sparkly festive poos at 3am to get the holiday off to a good start!

I have to admit, my first reaction to your post was, that is freaking hilarious!! (What a way with a rhyme you have!) My second reaction was, how is it possible that's the first time Ralph has helped himself to human food??? But then I remembered, my old pit bull had to go on a diet for her arthritis and she was miserable, so hungry all the time. But she would not sneak kibble from her dog food bag that was beside her dish, even though the top was just rolled down--we never told her not to, I guess it just didn't occur to her. Some dogs just don't get into things! I think Maddy would learn to drive the car to the store if we put HER on a diet, ha,ha.

I know, it's pretty funny that Ralph never helped himself to human food before. We had these snacks in the same place we usually keep snacks (that he's never touched even when home alone all day). I think what did it this time was the pepperoni. All three of us (Ralph included) were snacking on it right before we left. Then I put it "away" and my hubby and I left. I think it was just too tempting for Ralph...he knew how yummy it was... now that he knows that he can eat snacks from that spot we can no longer keep things there.
It sounds funny. We were so shocked that our dog would get in to anything...where most people are shocked that we'd be so stupid to leave food out at Poodle height! LOL, oops! ralph's had free roam of the house since he was a puppy and we have NEVER returned to any kind of damage, or mischief! I guess he's allowed one slip up! hee hee.

I wish we could say that. Dex loves to counter surf when we are gone. Yesterday I had just recieved a gift that I assumed was a box of chocolates. I put it in my sewing and craft room and closed the door. The counter was clear. Well when I got home the delicious box of Pot of Gold chocolates was open and packaging all over the rug. Not one chocolate left! He learned how to open the door to the sewing room! He had a little wet stool last night. And now I have to put elastics on the cupboard doors because he will open them if it smells good enough

I'm so jealous! Maddy would be so much more enjoyable if only she didn't get into things all day long. Even as I write this I had to get her off the kitchen table twice and take 4 things out of her mouth that she stole off the table and tried to chew up (like Canadian Tire money, some warranty and my son's hat). Only one of the things was edible (a donut). Arrghh!

Oh thank you for your rhyme! It brought back memories of all the years I got in trouble for eating the Easter candy. I was finally vindicated when my father caught our arthritic 10 year old toy poodle up on the kitchen table (she jumped from an oak floor to an oak chair to an oak table top) eating the candy out of the basket. Just goes to show no matter the variety... A poodle is a poodle is a poodle!
