Introducting Fritz - sorry it's long
Please say hello to Fritz.
He used to be named Billie/Brody, the released 7 month old Service Dog. He has been part of our family since late Oct and he is settling in nicely. He is now healthy (he had Giardia) and has grown a bit. He just turned 9 months old, weighs about 50 lbs and is approx 24 inches. He and Mandy (cat) are doing well together.
Baby gates were the life saver as he adjusted to us and Mandy and allowed Mandy to get away from him upstairs when she tired of him. Now the only baby gate that remains is the one for the bathroom with the litter box. I expect that will always be there.
We are working on his fear issues. They aren't just at night. He is currently afraid of cardboard boxes, the ironing board, and anything unknown. He will bark and growl at anything unknown until he realizes it is nonthreatening. It took him 10 minutes to come into the room when we brought out the artificial Christmas Tree (but no barking or growling). This was before we put it together. Now, the tree doesn't phase him.
He is crated at night and is confined to the Kitchen when we need to leave him at home.
He and I will begin Obedience training in early January at a local Kennel Club.
He and Spike are best buds and Sarah's input has been invaluable. I never thought I would be scheduling play dates for a dog. LOL

Is that him in your avatar? He's so gorgeous! It's good you're working on his fear issues, as he might be going into another fear phase soon (around 9 months, for many dogs). My dog Indy is cautious of anything new too, but she wouldn't be over it in 10 minutes like Fritz..when I got a new washing machine in the fall it took her a good week to gather up the nerve to go by it if the laundry door wasn't closed! She would run after her ball and if it went near the laundry room, she'd skid to a stop, and bark at it while backing up, ha,ha. Anyway I look forward to hearing more about Fritz!

Fritz is a pretty boy!OOPS! I mean he's handsome! Hoping his fear issues are just a phase he's going thru. My Molly went thru the 'suspicious of everything' stage. Once when I threw her toy across the room and caused a picture to fall she avoided that part of the room for days! She's pretty much over it now, but not completely(10 months old)What's funny is that she's afraid of 'things' but loves people! I call her a whus!
Welcome, and posts lots of pictures of that handsome lil' man of yours!
