I always had male dogs, and I have always heard that they were more affectionate than females, generally speaking. When I got my female toy poodle, I did not expect her to be very loving. She is a little girl who loves to ruin expectations. I have NEVER owned a dog that is so caring, loving and devoted as she is!

I have always heard that females love you, but males are in love with you

I have ONLY had male poodles and they have all become "momma's boy" but, that's probably more ME than them. I do notice my friends who have female spoos -- the females seem to bond more with the husband so maybe that's the same with boy dogs bonding more with a female? Just a thought.

Interesting! Both of my girls are sweet and affectionate, but neither of them actively seek it out. I have to initiate it. They also don't "cuddle" unless you ask them to and manipulate them into cuddling position. Sookie wants to be near me, in the same room where she can keep an eye on me, but doesn't care if she's next to me or making contact. Nova doesn't even care if she's in the same room, and tends to actually prefer to be by herself.
I kind of want a dog that loves to cuddle and seeks out affection. Maybe I should consider a male next time around? I just can't handle how boy spoos pee on their legs :\

Sigh...I am so with you! I love my boys so much and they love me back the same way. My girlies are sweet too, but it always feels like there is a bit of an agenda with the ladies. With the boys it is all about unconditional love, love, love!

It's absolutely true, the boys are total love bugs. My girls love me too of course, but the boys are way more devoted. They have been easier to train because of it.
I always thought boys were gross (marking, etc) and dominant before I had them. Nothing is farther from the truth!
