Oh you could do a light grey carpet then you'd still have nice contrast with the floors but would not look dirty quickly like white does.

I love having rugs, and Remington likes them too, but not as much as Bella (the Border Collie). Well Bella rolls, and her black hair collects in my cream carpet and also on my rugs... So I like to go to Home Depot, or Garden Ridge, or Lowes and buy the differnt color rugs, I have some that are almost as large as the room, (12X15) and then others that are smaller (9X6). What I have learned has saved them are the spot bot put out by Bissil (spelling?). It has taken stains out of rugs that I thought would never be clean. You just set it on the stain and it goes automatically. But the rugs I have are very short nap. I hope you find a new one that is poodle proof soon!

I think rugs with lots of differant colors work best at hiding dirt. Here is my new girl enjoying a bit of rug time.

Wool is not Good as far as cleaning goes. I had wool orientals when I had Birds(Large Parrot poo!) cleaning was not easy! I found the synthetics were really easy to clean, but you just can't beat Shag for comfort! SO I would go with the browns in shag maybe a synthetic blend? And I also have a spot bot...it
works!( I have the Green Machine though)
p.s. I now have wall to wall and I hate it ...I miss my wood floors!

Wood floors with rugs is the only way to go with pets. Poodles or otherwise. Poodles don't shed but mine make up for it with butt cleaning and puking up on the rugs. Yuck. Could not live without my spot bot. Lol.

After 15 years of living in the country with two large dogs, I found that synthetic rugs were definitely the way to go if you want to keep the rugs looking good. My criteria for a rug is that it hides dirt and can be cleaned with a rug shampooer. You cannot clean a wool rug with a carpet shampooer, the water will shrink it.
As some others have mentioned, a rug with a pattern is best for hiding dirt and stains. The rug in the picture below was bought just over a year ago. I still had my old Rottweiler when I got it and she was really hard on rugs what with shedding a ton of hair and dragging in lots of dirt. This rug also lived through Cali's puppyhood and housebreaking. It's been shampooed every couple of months and cleans up beautifully. It's made of nylon and is very plush and comfie underfoot. The only downside is that the pattern hides things so well that I keep tripping over antlers and pizzles that just blend right in!

My rug is patterned but Dexter doesnt lay on it much. He much prefers the couch and loveseat. Thats why we have always had leather. Easy to keep, a breeze to clean and always looks nice.
