Worst Weekend
First off, let me brag on my boy... I would not be here right now were it not for my fuzzy man.
Saturday night we left and got to Waco and stopped there for a few items to take to my Mom's farm for the weekend. I put Remington's Service Dog Vest on him and he did just amazing for me. I had a major panic attack in the store with so many screaming kids. After the short 30 min trip I was shaking... When we walked out of the store and chaos, I felt so much better and Remington breathed a sigh of relief... We got to the car, and I was standing to the rear when this other white car laid on the horn and swerved toward us, without thinking I pushed Remington between my car and myself, as I just knew this woman was going to hit him... They rolled their windows down and were hooting and hollering. That was it for me, I fell apart. Remington was there with his paws on my shoulders licking my face. I got into the car, and we went straight to my Mom's place.
We unpacked what boxes she had brought, and ate something small. Remington would not leave me alone. I knew I was stressed and my blood pressure had to be up, but he was alerting for blood sugar. I took my BG and it was at 482. Yikes! I walked around for a bit and drank a lot of water. Off and on all night he kept alerting. He was all over me... He was licking me and would not stop touching me... So around 5 AM I took my blood sugar again... I was almost at 600... That was it, we went to the ER...
They ran test after test, I ended up not only having my BG out of wack, but I also had a majot UTI. They ended up giving me a diagnosis of diabetes, which I was already pretty sure I had, now it is just official... Sigh. But on the other hand, it also gives me another reason to try again to be able to take Remi with me to work. He alerts to changes in my BG. We shall see what my boss says. :(
On another note, we will try again next weekend for a super fun weekend at the farm.

Sorry you had such a bad weekend! Remington is such an angel! Glad he is there for you. Healing prayers sent your way! Winston (my spoo) is saying he wants to be just like Remington when he grows up!

Oh, that's too bad it wasn't fun. But I'm glad for Remi! I wonder if my dogs will do anything like that as they get older. Anyway you know some new things about your health and forewarned is forearmed, right? Hope you plan another fun trip soon (HERE, a major consideration before travelling is weather...ugh, snowy terrible roads all around us right now, even though here in the valley we have nice weather, so I kind of think I will stay put until spring)

Very true! Take care and listen to Remington. He sure seems to know when things are out of balance.

Oh dear, I'm sorry. But thank goodness Remi was there! What a good boy he is. I bet it's a huge comfort, having him with you.

What a wonderful dog - and what a good thing you have learned to listen to him. I hope you have a happy, relaxed weekend on the farm sometime soon, and that you are able to convince your boss that you really need Rem with you at work.
