You are right, the poodles do look to be kept groomed/clipped, though admittedly the nails make me grimace.
I would also agree that there does seem to be a ton of "poodle love" at that house. However, when I say "poodle love", I mean poodles making love. Puppies. Lots of them. And mostly "rare" colors. I took a look through their blog and - in the past year - there hardly seemed to be a day that went by that they didn't have puppies on the ground.
As far as breeding goes:
In one year, they have had 6 litters. 1 litter this October, 1 in September, 2 in May (separated by only several days), 1 in February, and 1 in November 2011.
They have done some health testing - however I could not find any of the results on OFA for both of the studs that they claim to father the majority of their puppies. Speaking of which, they use the same dogs over and over again, breeding to their own stud dogs in most cases rather than using outside studs. Keep in mind the cost of these puppies, and the ultimate difference in "income" between a breeder who only uses their own stud dogs vs. one who pays to use an outside stud who
best complements their bitch.
You can connect the dogs. Is this breeder breeding for the purpose of bettering the breed?
The puppies are $1,500 - which keep in mind - here in the midwest you can buy a fully health tested puppy with a 5 year health guarantee from proven (performance and/or conformation) parents from a smaller scale hobby breeder. Again, keep in mind the difference in "income" between this breeder and one that spends thousands more on additional health testing and involvement in conformation, agility, performance, etc.
And I didn't even mention anything about the structure, type, or massive size of these poodles. Or that they don't breed under a kennel prefix (huh?), or that the title of their website states quite concisely their breeding goals.
Anyway, as someone passionate about breeding and doing so ethically, I feel confident that this breeder is already making enough income without my purchasing a tree topper from them.
