I was curious how everyone keeps their pups away from the xmas tree?

Good question - I'll be interested to hear the replies. I was thinking about skipping the tree. Lily has already jumped up on the table to steal gifts I had brought home. :P

Our tree left last year about 2 days after the puppy came home. Since we cut a real one, and celebrate multiple December holidays here, and keep it up till epiphany (Jan 6th), we wait till the middle of the month to get one, usually.

Last year it was 2 days of baby gate on the living room. I expect it will be 3 weeks of no unsupervised dogs in the tree room... I have no idea what you do, other than enclosing the tree in an ex pen, if you can't shut the whole room. (I'd put an rx pen around the tree and gifts... they are like 60 bucks at walmart...)

We have 6 dogs that would hit the tree when playing and we ended up putting our tree up on my son's play table. This puts the tree almost 2 feet off the floor which is just enough to have the bottom branches above the dogs' backs as they race around. None of our dogs actively try to take out the tree so this is enough, but if it wasn't I'd do an expen. We have a real tree and so far haven't had an issue with the boys thinking we brought an outhouse inside.

My fur kids haven't bothered the tree, except when my Aussie knocked it over. There is always sniffing, that's all. I did tie bells on the bottom branches so I'd know if Spookie was there.

And I always tell the boys it's not indoor plumbing for them. And they don't!!

I've never put up a Christmas tree or any decorations or ornaments because of our cats. They are very curious and cause mischeif with new items - knocking things over, eating things, etc, that it's a huge hassle to have things like this with them. At least with dogs, you can move it out of their reach... cats can walk and climb anywhere they want!

Not sure, we skip the tree (I haven't put up a tree since I adopted a devon rex cat- can they EVER jump, and they are super curious!) because someone always ends up knocking it over.

Those poisonous holiday plants are also banned haha.

I got mine up today. So far Stella has left it alone. I know Carley will be fine. I guess I will put Stella in a room away from the tree when we are gone. I would die if she turned it over. I have been collecting special ornaments for years.
